Amtrak Express Boxcars

We have some great Amtrak boxcars in the file library, and thanks to all who have skinned these.I was wondering if anyone planned on skinning a boxcar into this scheme?


There is a similar looking reefer (actually 2) in the file library, but it'd be cool to have a boxcar like those in the photos.

Yep, it's a Walthers car. How is it? I've been thinking of getting a few. It looks really good from the photo. And if you didn't notice it's the same number as the car in the first photo I posted

Yeah, I spotted the same one in SAN last Feb. I like it, runs well, had some minor coupler issues with my horizons and amcans but with a modified KayDee it runs just lovely. There's usually some on ebay sold by someone called 'martyHO.' Real nice guy and good deals. Tim Frost

Hows this?It's based on car #71204. Thats why the roof isn't peaked and the skirting is not the same as the ones pictured above. Not finished YET! Still have to add the grab irons, wheels on the door, brakewheel, etc.... The trucks are not the exect model used on the cars but it's close enough.I can pack alot of detail into these puppies since there a usually only a few in a train, so they won't kill the frame rates. As they stand now they are a bit over 1500 polys!Comments are welcome Enjoy!!!

Keith, If I may make a suggestion? If poly's come to be a problem, the 3D ribs could be eliminated and substituted by textured ones, which can look just as convincing as modeled ones if shadowed properly

Very nice! Might I suggest (since you said such was welcome ) making a model with a FRED on the coupler? Since these are always on the end of the trains as they lack HEP connections, we could use a FRED version. Shouldn't add many polies at all.Tim Frost

Here is another shot after some VERY VERY crude painting. This is just a test paint, obviously the color is no where close, etc... but this is as far as my painting skills will take me and I just wanted to have a look see with some paint on it. Tim, shouldn't be a problem to add a E.O.T device (fred). I actually never though about that But anyway should have the model finished tomorrow and then I will get it off to be painted. Anyway .... that about it for tonight!later

I like it a lot! Very nice. Fred would be cool, but wouldn't be utilized by my trainset The Southwest Chief has roadrailers at the very rear of the train.
