LOL, that brings back memories. It was quite the mystery back when Train Simulator was first released and all of us kept getting that derail message. It's one of the AI traffic consists derailing that gives you that message, but it's been so long ago I can't remember what was done to cure it. I'll go do a search and see if I can't locate the cure and post back to this thread.Regards,

RE: Car Derails in Shortpassenger run

The "fix" is very simple - just accelerate quickly from the station and you will be clear of the block before the AI train crashes into the track bumper.Ken

RE: Car Derails in Shortpassenger run

Ok l follow the logic above but l've a simular problem on the Crawford Hill route, its the helper activity, its fine pushing the Ai consist up the hill and uncoupling at the top, however when l set back down the hill this dreaded error pops up, first time l cut off the AI consist was doing 20mph and l only set back a mile before the error, 2nd time the AI consist l dropped off was doing 3mph and l got 7 miles down the hill. There is only 5 miles from the drop off point for the AI train to travel before the end of the route.Question 1: is it the helped train thats running off the route thats causing the crash ?Question 2: if l lock the brakes on the helped train, ie come to a stand and tie down the brakes on say 15 wagons that AI consist should stay there and by rights l can get back down the hill and complete the activity ?, fine but what happens to all the consists l pass coming up the hill on my return journey ?, eventually there will be a big bottle neck at the summit, will that not trip up MSTS.I have to say this is the first activity that has caught my eye and that l've played in 2 years of MSTS work, it was fun but sadly tempered by what appears to be a monumental bug in the game !.Answers, discussions greatly appreciated.Best regardsMichael

I have no idea what could be causing your problems, but since nobody else has offered any suggestions yet: perhaps you could employ the hacked yard cam to find out what the AI gets up to when it is out of your sight. You'll probably have to go into the RE and add a yard marker at a convenient location but that shouldn't be a problem for someone with as much MSTS experience as yourself.Rob.

RE: Car Derails in Shortpassenger run

Rob,Well l finally sorted it ( I think ?)so l could finish the run, basically you have to come to a complete stand at the top of the hill, tie down the AI consist with 15 or so handbrakes then cut off and return back down the hill. Trains still pass you on the way up but the activity doesnt crash anymore. When you drive the train from the front ie a different activity you pass a helper set coming down the hill at the begining but the game doesnt crash in that instance, l can only assume that this is because the helper set is AI and is told to pass you then hold elsewhere further down the route, the reason l think the above fails is that the train your pushing is not AI but in fact your own stock with two locos added on the front by the activity maker. I'm also assuming that if you simply shunted a wagon into a yard that had a slope and backed away off down the line it would again crash, the wagon in the yard would eventually roll away and hit the buffers and trigger a crash.Crawford is a nice short interesting route to make helper activites for so l'm going to try and make some, as l said before l've never even used one until the other day let alone made any !.Ok try this for size then, if you make an activity where you push a train to the top and then tie down like the above, then back down the hill and pick up another to push up the hill, what happens to all the trains you passed going down ?, will they still be stuck waiting for the original to clear ? and thus block your path, will they time out and disappear ? and will the original train you pushed up and tied down still be there an hour later when you get there with the next one ?.Experiance... ha l wish , all my experiance is in building locos and stock in Gmax and some work on eng/wag files with couplings and vac brakes for UK stock. what l know about activites and routes is to be blunt...a big fat zero. l can debate vertices, polygons, UVW mapping or whatever in Gmax but acticvities and routes...err sadly no.All l know is that its going to be fun and l just wish l'd tried just one activity, just one, two years ago when l got MSTS, l have missed so much fun .Where does one find this hacked yard cam utility, is this what they call camhack the utility that allows you to zoom out further than the default zoom levels ?.As for RE...whoa went in there once, made a mess and decided it might be a bit more than l thought .Thanks for the replyBest regardsMichael

Actually, I think that if there is one thing the community lacks it is activity-writers - I have hundreds of wonderful models that I can only use in Explore Route, and I'm sure many others here are in the same situation.>Where does one find this hacked yard cam utility, is this

>it might be a bit more than l thought . Heh. I went in there once myself, to plant a yard marker at Dusseldorf on the Wupper. Backed everything up first and went _really_ slow, but it was worth the effort, especially for large-scale activities. This gives me an excuse to mention that it was all in aid of this project:http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=150&topic_id=928&mesg_id=928&listing_type=searchAh, memories.Rob.

RE: Car Derails in Shortpassenger run

Rob,Whoaa now thats some trick hack !!, l have got to try that one real soon.If AI just disappear when they reach there end point then it can only be the train l pushed that is causing the problem, simply put its not AI, as far as l know and have read today ( and printed ) you cannot interact with AI, ie the users path cannot conflict with the AI paths.Thats a shame as l was trying to figure out how to add helpers in mid train, by getting the AI to arrive where your stationed, cut the train, and draw fwd allowing the helper to be cut in mid train. The only way round is to have the train stock split already at the begining of the activity, thats my reasoning so far.Someone else posted a few weeks back that its not possible for trains to overtake the 1st person train, Crawford Hill is bi directional so it should be possible to have an AI train leave after you have passed then cross to track 1 and proceed up track 1, if you are then held further up the line on track 2 by rights the AI can pass you or even better leave you to grind up the hill as the other train can carry on up track 1 to its end point and disappear. Doing that would take slick timing so as not to conflict with helper sets coming down the hill.Trains crossed to track 1 would would by there higher speed need to be lightweight intermodal, hot shot stack trains or Amtrak liners leaving coal and heavy weights confined to track 2 as per real operations. As for RE, well l may have to get in there at some stage, there was something nagging me about Crawford hill l just could not place my finger on it, l searched the forums and found Kevarcs addon activities ( going to try them later ) as well as some nice sites from the Crawford hill pdf, then l found DEMEX !!!, oh dear thats me hooked. Having spent the last 5 years in plane sim DEM scenery is common place but now DEM scenery for train sim ?, you have gotta be kidding me , love it. Yeah read something about markers in some posts here and there ease ( or not ) in compiling, definate case of info overload today .Checked out your other post, thats a cool idea, actualy very cool sort of virtual trainspotting ( its a UK thing ), railfaning l think they call it in the US. Your right once you have the whole day set up it should be possible to swap the 1st person activity with the AI ones, only problem l can see is that you would need to follow that AI path when driving in 1st person pretty closely, if you dont the whole schedule could go out... hey thats not a bad idea , now a sort of built in timetable to adhere too ?.So time to back up and crawl a little before all this running LOL.Best regardsMichael
