Cool tip from over in the activity design forum, when you're testing a new activity on your route with AI traffic:From Denny:I've altered my keystroke #7 to have full camera control. I can go see what the AI's doing if the player is sitting in a yard. I can go anywhere and look.Opening the \Global\camcfg.dat file in wordpad, find the camera ( CamTypeYard section and overwrite it with Denny's hack:camera ( CamTypeYard
CamType ( CamTypeYard CamControlFull )Fov ( 80 )
ZClip ( 0.5 )
WagonNum ( 0 )
Description (Yard_Cam)
)I tried this, and it works similar to maneuvering in the route editor, altho the height above terrain is restricted and makes for a bumpy ride cruising over the mountains.Where IS that dumb AI train? – image 1
I'm sitting in Stevens Point yard, hit the 7 key, hold down the right mouse button to rotate the view, and fly over to Timber Valley. Here's an AI train emerging from the tunnel, another one a kilometer (0.6 miles) away in the "Amber Waves of Grain" area (red arrow). This could come in seriously handy for troubleshooting signals, place a yard marker temporarily at a cantankerous junction, and you can switch to the #7 view to see where the AI train is when the signals change. Thanks, Denny!

RE: Where IS that dumb AI train?

Nope, the trick is you copy and paste it in, open up the sim, hit the 7 key on the keyboard, and nothing happens. You have to be within the boundaries of a yard limit marker for the 7 key to work, after that holding down the right mouse key and moving the mouse rotates the view, fly with the camera keys. If the engine is moving and leaves the yard limit boundaries it will pop back to the incab view, so it's best to be stopped when you're using it. Like I said, temporarily place a yard limit definition at the signal that's giving you fits, park your train at that signal, then hit the 7 key to switch to the new free flying yard view and hunt down or follow the AI train.
