I need help from my fellow route builders... It seems that once in a while when I add new structures to my route, when I start up the RE it says there are missing Shape and Texture files in my Global folder? Why would it say that for some, but not all the added objects then? I would appreciate any and all feedback on the subject. Thanx

RE: Global Folder Relationship To Custom Routes?

Do a search for ESD and Sniper297. One of the ESD combinations does not work right and it causes the program to look in global rather than in the route.David Beach.Palouse & LewistonGlobal Folder Relationship To Custom Routes? – image 3Route Building 1% Completed

RE: Global Folder Relationship To Custom Routes?

That happened to me in a route that I have abandoned a year ago because it gave me too many problems. I must have corrupted it somehow (maybe because I accidentally buried a lot of tracks, with mileposts, underground). If I am not mistaken, I could make some progress by deleting the objects for which that reference to the GLOBAL folder occurs. Why not try that?Michael Vone

RE: Global Folder Relationship To Custom Routes?

One thing it could be is that the particular objects you added might need more than just the usual Shape and Texture files. Some scenery objects, like vegetation for example, are forest objects and also require .DAT entries. Roads need to have files in the Global folder as well as the usual shape and texture folders. I'm not sure what your level of experience is with the RE, so hopefully I don't sound patronizing with this. I've still got a whole lot to learn myself. One problem I get a lot is when I try to select certain objects, I get the error message "No extended shape data for "(file name).s" Continue?"Chris

RE: Global Folder Relationship To Custom Routes?

Thanx to all for the feedback. There have been to instances so far that the error box has popped up on me. The first time was when I made a simple activity to check track work, and it said no extended shape file for abot 3 or 4 buildings. The activity still worked, but the buildings that were listed were no longer on my route. The second time was today when I created a structure with 3DCanvas and exported it into MSTS. It seems like every other time I exported an object, it worked fine. I didn't do anything different that I can think of. Also, I did a search on ESD and found Jim's response to a post. But his answer only dealt with someone missing a file from a default object, not a created one. Could someone maybe explain which files I should look for the error in? I would appreciate any and all help on this one. Thanx again

Take a look in the *.sd for the problem shape. In my installation of MSTS, ESD_Alternative_Texture (256) gives the global folder problem that you describe. I have noticed that some folks use this value even when there are no alternative textures supplied at all. If there are none, change the 256 to 0 and the dependence on the global\textures folder goes away. Other Values :
0 - no alternative textures
1 - snow texture
257- night or snow texturesregards,

RE: Global Folder Relationship To Custom Routes?

Eric, I am getting that with the 16th ST Station that Rory sent to me. I added the shapes and testures to the Global folder and still getting the same error. If I click yes when the error box comes up, the program comes up and the station is there so I am at a loss for this one. Earlier when I did the Berkeley Station, I was getting the same error but I had not merged all the objects together before I converted from 3dc to msts format in 3dcanvas.

You just can't imagine the anger i'm feeling right now. One minute everything is great, the next it's FUBR! Microsoft needs to get their act together and quit turning us all into computer programmers just to run a damn train. I must have re-textured, re-named, re-everything to that station John, but it still says Global/Textures/shape file/etc. EEAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!1

RE: Global Folder Relationship To Custom Routes?

Understand where you are coming from Eric. I thought it was me at first with the 16th St. Station, and I checked everything I could think of but no go. I did notice that one side of the station had no texturing, just solid brown. Is that what it should be? May be grasping at straws here, but...Global Folder Relationship To Custom Routes? – image 7
