RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Progress

Sorry, nobody has any appetite for that old thing anymore (drool).
Seriously, looks outstanding, inquiring minds wanna know;
1. Xtracks 3.1 compatible, or you still using your own tsection.dat?
2. Them EL cars look a lot better than what I got currently, have they/will they be uploaded too?
3. Do you really think you need 8 hours of sleep every night? Couldn't you drink 55 gallons of coffee and keep working on it, and get it done faster?
Man, look what you did now!

Oh Man!If it weren't for the funky stiping on the roadway, I would *swear* that was an actual snopshot of the freeway that I drove down during our visit to Chi-town last November! You keep taking it a notch higher, Chris! Thanks for the screenshots!Henry

You are going to take care of that double-yellow line in the middle of the freeway right?------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 6John Ekhoff

*Criticizes CTA* Why did they have to make it elevated everywhere? That bridge is truly the ugliest thing I've seen for a median!------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 9John Ekhoff

Wow Chris!Heck of a job. All those car spawners are very impressive. Do they cause much of a frame rate hit?Traffic sure looks like it is flowing smoothly. To be prototypical, you are going to need some traffic jams. Bill Burnett

RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Progress

They didn't make it elevated everywhere, some places it runs on the ground, some places underground, some places on other railroad's embankments. There are enough miles of those iron girder elevated sections of all different types and stages of antiquity to keep you counting rivets for the rest of your life, tho. Better get busy! Carspawners? What in the world do you need carspawners for? Just place a whole bunch of tightly packed vehicles as static objects on the expressways, not moving at all, and pretend it's rush hour!

RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Progress

The only problem with MSTS is that it can't do justice to the Chicago freeway during rush hour. The last time I was there and heading West down that section I had to leave and hit back roads to get where I was going in time. As noted the track is up, on the ground and under. Your shots remind me of exactly how it looks. Now the question is how much detail you are giving it in the Loop. I spent most of my last business trip staying there near the company office where I was working and walking around the downtown tracks while heading out to eat. Excellent work.Richard

RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Progress

I still don't have any carspawners at all, primarily cuz I haven't layed any real roads yet, only a few parked cars here and there as static objects. Somebody noticed that Van den Hoven had some cars scattered about the streets, but they didn't see any in Sundermeyer. The unfortunate explanation is that in spite of this sleepy pastoral little town having two churches preaching against the evils of the Demon Rum, everyone who has a car is parked down at the Railway Tavern.Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 14
The mopeds don't count as traffic, that's just the local chapter of Heck's Angels passing thru.

(First I saw this... I oughta stop being so... erratic with my visits to the messageboard...)My god, man. Put a concrete barrier down along the yellow stripe to separate the express and local lanes, and that *is* the Dan Ryan at about mid-morning on a Saturday! Bravo!RDF

Christopher! Man, you're still alive! And here we already held the funeral services, thought you got fried fooling around with them 3rd rails.
I dunno, TriRail, for some reason that car looks too short. Might be just angle distortion or something, what are they supposed to be, something wierd like 48 feet, right? The shape looks great with the rounded top tho.
Great to see ya back, Chris, say hi to Lisa for me! Can't wait for L3, hurry-hurry-hurry!

Kurt, you're missing that big ugly platey-thing the the 3rd rail pickup is attached to. Been playing sardines twice daily for over a year now and I still haven't gotten a good look between the wheels. Edit: of course, I'm tired, and failed to notice that you said only the main body was completed. Tra la la...

RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Progress

As Kurt has shown the latest Beta version of the BV2400 train, and as Chris has now "blessed" the related cabview I've been working on as being close to realistic, here's two 3DC Pro/POV-Ray test renderings of the front and left views. Four lighting sources used - 2 area lights outside for sunlight (in Chicago?) and 2 point lights inside - to generate the lighting and shadows. Still some details to finish (alter the side windows a little, wiper smears, etc.), then build the ACE files and control animations...FRONT VIEW

RE: Chicago Elevated Railways Progress

The 3rd rail option is done in the route files, not the .eng file. Unless you're talking about the shoegear, that is done by the modeller.-------------My favourite LUL train-------------
