Just be kind enough to ask for permission and to give credit were credit is due and you won't run into any trouble. Worse comes to worst, I'm sure dropping a line to Rich Garber with any questions you may have could surely get them answered. The community needs route builders to continue doing what they love, and you are no exeption.Queen"And the meandering of the queen continues for another day..." Mar-04-02, 08:01 AM (EST) 2. "RE: ive stopped working on my route" Don't stop work on a route because of somebody that's not happy with copyrights. In this forum that's more the exception than the rule. If I ever get around to distributing my product I will try to mention as many people as I can that have contributed, not as much for "copyright protection" but because it's the "right thing to do". Frankly, I have used so much stuff I'm not so sure I could figure out now who it all came from anyway. Most people here like to see their stuff used, that's why they post it here in the first place.I just submitted my first locomotive re-skin ever... it isn't even in the download section yet... I gave credit to the original designers because it's THE RIGHT THING TO DO, not because I'm worried about them suing me. To be honest I really couldn't care less if somebody does go out and try to make money with my work...good luck, even though I put about 20 hours into it. Heck, Nels could remove my name from it right now and post it up there claiming it was his and I wouldn't even care....I'd just be happy that somebody thought enough of it to do something with it.I think the word "copyright" as far as MSTS is concerned is an inappropriate use of the legal term in the first place...go look up the official definition for the term. How many of us are ever going to try to make money at what we produce anyway? How many of us would actually PAY money for somebody else's work when there is so much "free" stuff out there anyway? That is the main reason I didn't purchase the LTV route from Abacus...what does that route have that PO&N, EMRR, or HBS don't have? A price tag is the only difference. I'd bet that the free routes mentioned are better anyway. Most people probably won't agree with my opinion about this copyright thing...but everyone is entitled to my opinion. If somebody wants to spend the money to sue me over something like MSTS where I plain forgot to give credit or inadvertantly missed it... never intended to make money or claim that somebody else's work is mine, then more power to them....and good luck with it in the courtroom...you'll need it.Moral of the story....by all means continue with your route...what youdo in the privacy of your own home is yours anyway. Don't be concerned about somebody flaming you for copyright violation. When you get to the point of distribution, just make sure that you mention as many people in your credits as you can and include a "blanket" mention for anybody you forgot and a method for them to get their name in the "marquee" if you missed them. Mar-04-02, 10:58 AM (EST) 3. "RE: ive stopped working on my route" y2jason,I'm guessing you read Lawrence's last "I'm leaving" post called Tapiola. It was nothing but lies. There was no issue of copyright. Please read this post and continue with the route. This was not about copyright, read this posthttp://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/3894.htmlRich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

hey, don't stop!!!!!!!!! that is what losers want you to do. don't be dragged down to their low life level. i'm building my first route, too; and there are no copyright problems (that was to cover-up the real problem.) Larry mislead the community to manipulate the situation and create general confusion. remember - "we can please some of the people sometimes but not all the people all the time."SkyRat

Mar-04-02, 11:24 AM (EST) 5. "RE: ive stopped working on my route" Exactly right! I should've spoken out on this sooner. But what he is trying to do is divide us. There is and never was an issue of copyright in any of this. Please continue your work. If I was this mean nasty person like Lawrence says I would be doing every thing to stop you all from doing your routes so mine would stay popular. Please continue!
