Jan-12-02, 01:18 PM (EST) "Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" I really want to just save the typing about this one and say GET IT! Its a model railroader's dream come true and I can't say enough good it! First off I have not even used many programs like this in the past, only a few. With TSM its so fast and easy to make new content for MSTS its not even funny. The entire watertower in the tutorial took about 4 minutes to make and import into my MSTS route. You really can make anything you want with it, I will start with some buildings and industries and when finished I will upload them. I imagine I can have an entire collection in no time...LOL. One project I definitely want to do is a shipyard with ships. Anyway, I bought my copy at EB yesterday. Its like having endless add-ons for $35 which is great value for the money. Jan-12-02, 10:44 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" While walking through FRY'S electronics, I stumbled into a copy of TSM. 50 BUCKS? Gimme a break. I only paid 50 bucks for MSTS. Is it really worth 50 bucks? Let me know. Thanx

Jan-13-02, 01:27 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" Thanks to TSM we can create our own stuff. My route was beginning to look like the NEC route with those same old buildings used over and over. TSM Rocks!
Best Regards
Hobart

Jan-13-02, 11:32 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" Hey WP713,
One thing I've learned is that route making is a slow boat to china. All those blank terrrain tiles! I'm about half way there though, I love the sparse desert areas best.Best Regards

Jan-13-02, 12:24 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" Ya got that right. I wish I had more desert. Right now I'm bogged down with details in Pueblo. I'm using TSM to custom build a bunch of prototype buildings (there's a LOT of trackage in Pueblo, all interconnected) and using digital photos. It's taking a while. And I still need to finish upo Rocky Mountain Steel. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

It sure was nice of Uncle S$#*head to kick down 300 frog skins for my digital camera. Makes makin MSTS buildings a snap
that one does. Can't wait to see some pics of your route.Best Regards

Jan-14-02, 08:13 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" You said it! I just got it via download the other day and have done nothing but design since! I had never used a 3D design program before and found it really easy to use. It does all the non-creative MSTS Bull*&%$ for you .... which I really like. Here are some examples of a paper mill complex I am making for my NS route (if I can get the file to upload). I will be uploading it soon. I would say this program is really a bargain for the price ... especially considering what other 3D programs not tailored to MSTS cost.
This is roughly based on a prototype about 5 miles from where I live. It has a 'drive-in' loading dock,
'drive-in' tank car depot, truck loading ramp and lots of other goodies.
A view from inside the loading dock. Got to have a soda after packing those cars.
Tank car loading ramps ....
One last shot ....
BTW, I have hacked the BNSF signals to display correct NS aspects. I am trying to write new signal shape files but am having trouble. They will work with the BNSF signals, but I would like to make new signal shapes also. If anyone knows how to make new signal shapes work, please let me know. Jan-15-02, 04:05 AM (EST) 15. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" I haven't saved it as one object yet, it is still basically all the seperate units in one project, but the program says 1400 and 3252 after conversion. I was concerned that it might cause a big frame rate problem, but I have been testing it with long car consists and all the sliders/options set to max and still get frame rates in the high 20's. The texture files are small and only two of them so I guess that helps.

Jan-15-02, 04:48 AM (EST) 16. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" RE: papermill project....Now that's what I'm talking about......Big industrial complexs and still getting good framerates with long train consists. Hey rich, I think the bodiddly could use a paper mill to complement the logging sub don't you!!!Now we need good Refinery objects like a fractionating tower with platform and caged ladders, pipe stills, Flare towers..possibly animated with flame!, spherical butane tanks....etc.LHW Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-15-02, 03:35 PM (EST) 17. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" Gosh! That paper mill is incredible! Definetely model of the year award if you ask me. Yeah, the paper mill would be a great asset to any route! Looking forward to seeing the papermill upload and the signal revision Rome is talking about. I saw that post in the route design forum.Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-16-02, 05:33 AM (EST) 20. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" Now that you mention it, I was considering adding animated smoke to one or more of the stacks. Not sure how hard it would be or how much it might drive up frame rates. I am going to try to refine this model and have it uploaded this weekend if my schedule allows. Jan-16-02, 09:19 AM (EST) 21. "RE: Train Sim Modeler...Two Thumbs up from me :-)" Fantastic! This will make a great addition to the Bodiddly. I may stick in in for one of the steel mills planned or create all new track for it. One last question. Since you got some expertise behind you in the paper mill, could you also include the pic above that demonstrates the layout of the way the buildings should go? Thanks!Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
