Dec-14-01, 09:38 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Water help" You know, I don't usually agree with Lawrence on much of anything, and I understand that it takes a lot of time to do a search, especially for a dial-up modem. But in your case, when I see thishttp://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/2742.htmljust a few threads down on the same page, I gotta wonder if you even looked before asking the question.
Boy, was my face red. Ah, well, you'll get over it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-14-01, 10:51 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Water help" So put the little Faerie Spawn to bed and fix your water colors, unless you need her for consultation. Probably end up with pink water! My girls are grown up and married with little Faerie Spawn and Demon Spawn critters of their own, and the only one I got left at home is my 12 year old autistic boy, the ultimate Demon Spawn. Fortunately he's even nuttier about trains than I am, so giving him his own computer keeps him busy making and driving wierd consists in wierd activities. Fortunately he hasn't gotten into the route editor yet, he'll probably make something that looks even stranger than the PO&N when he does.
Post some screenshots while you're hacking it, I'm busy with these godforsaken signals so I don't have time to play with hacking textures, but I'm real interested in the effects of changing the colors of the various layers. Oddly enough, changing that bottom layer from brown to black made the whole thing greener, which is why the color of the wier matches for the waterfall. If I change my water color now, I'd have to change the wier texture too. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-15-01, 00:34 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Water help" Well, I cheated. I created a folder called \hacktex, with subfolders named \hackace, \bumps, and \targas, then copied TGAtool2.exe, plus makeace.exe, into \hacktex. Then I copy any ace I want to hack into \hacktex\hackace, makes it easier to browse for it when I launch TGAtool2.exe. After I'm done and export it back to the ace file (overwriting the copy of the original, I can always paste another copy of the original over the hack to start fresh) I copy the hacked ace file and paste it into the add-on route wherever it goes. (NOT one of the original routes, you'd have to make a seperate backup of that those ace files because they're the source!) If I don't like the look, I go thru the process again, just continuing to overwrite the hacked ace files. I ever want to restore the original texture to the route, just recopy from the source route. Dec-15-01, 01:12 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Water help" Here's a pretty good how-to about the middle of the thread;http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/738.htmlThe only thing that's a little wierd is that you have to login first before posting or replying, otherwise the "Click here to upload your file" link is missing.Message Areas - "Water help" – image 1 Just make sure you compress the gif or jpg to 100k or smaller when you save it in the image editing program, or the server won't accept it.
