Dec-12-01, 11:32 PM (EST) "Blast from the past, the day the Metro died - from the archives" (July 10 earlier that day) Well... my test track went belly-up. I got a track database corruption after putting a road crossing thingy up and now all I get after rebuilding the database is my terrain. I have a backup and all, but is it possible to recover from this error without having to resort to my backup?========================================================(July 10 later that day) Okay, you think you've seen everything... hopefully I got the picture to upload... but here's a screen shot of my train, driving through terrain following my missing trackwork exactly! That database has got to still be there. Every switch (I cropped the picture btw to make for a quicker view) was there, even knew the placement of stations and such. Does this give anybody any ideas how I can resurrect the track plan? May help others too who lost their trackwork. (for those who don't know, I just posted a message earlier how my route crashed after placing a level crossing... wasn't the first, about the fourth or fifth try, different crossing type each time).
Oh.. how this all happened that I even have the screen shot... I just went to drive a train in MSTS and saw my route still posted and wondered if maybe it could still work. I did get the track.db error, on load-up, but it kept loading. So, I started driving and I hit F8 and F4 to bring up driving aids after it finished loading. Everything is still there. BTW, I am backing up the hill in the picture towards Krenshaw's saw mill. I used the PrintScrn key to get the snapshot.

Well you heard me talk about it. On 7/10 my Number 11 died on me. It was a goner. Number 11 is the East Metro City tile which is part of the East Metro route. It was only 1 tile and luckily for me too. I discovered that day you could take the ~bk file and copy it over as the ~w file and that brought the route back partially. By the end of that day I recovered the whole route and lost virutally nothing. And now.. it's the East Metro Railroad! Ain't that someting!? Kinda a Kodak moment if you ask me... Rich Garber

Dec-13-01, 00:32 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Blast from the past, the day the Metro died - from the archives" Who, me? Somebody stole mine in the early days too, I wonder if I could fix it knowing what I know now.
OTOH, why bother? Might be fun to do another 2x2 route, see how small it could be made. 256k zip file?
I'll never forget, there was some flaky obnoxious idiot calling himself "Ragmop" back in those days, and he was always "ragging" me about the typo\*.*graphical errors in the original "stuffit.bat", and the subsequent fiasco that left all the seasonal textures out of PO&N version 1.
Here's some more blasts from the past;

My favorite part of that one is the installation instructions, should refer all the new whiners to this:
"Before installing any of the included files, prepare Microsoft Train Simulator as follows (using Windows Explorer or My Computer): copy the TEMPLATE folder of MSTS into the ROUTES folder of MSTS: this copy of the TEMPLATE folder should be at the same level as the default MSTS route folders (EUROPE1, etc.). Next rename that copy of the TEMPLATE folder to Cliff Hanger: so the folder Cliff Hanger will be at the same level as the default MSTS route folders (EUROPE1, etc.)."
