Nov-16-01, 01:43 AM (EST) "Can't get combine.bat to work!" I have Win2K installed on my machine. I have installed TS in the default location: c:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator.Having followed directions exactly I included my path with quotation marks. Yet, combine.bat chokes when it sees "File\Microsoft". Combine says "Files\Microsoft was unexpected at this time".If I leave out the quotation marks, combine still fails but at least it DOES create comobjs.log and ReadMe.txt.Can someone explain as to why combine.bat isn't working the way it should? Nov-16-01, 09:38 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" Jim;First, it took me a few trys to get this to work myself when it was first released.Create the merge folder in the Train Simulator folder prior to running the combine bat. Don't let it try to, never got that to work. Also, never got it to work with quotes in the combine.bat statement. In fact I've never heard of anyone getting that to work. Use the DOS 8.3 naming convention. So for me it was something like; combine.bat c:\progra~1\micros~1\trains~1. See if this gets it to work for you.David Klemm

Nov-16-01, 02:06 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" David:I tried that too. See my response to Lawrence. Will manual extraction work, or must I use a batch file to set up complete object information that belongs in TS?Thanks for the reply! Nov-16-01, 11:19 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" History time. When Jim Steven released that batch file, there were very few who were able to make it work. As Jim pointed out, that was because between Windows 95 and Windows ME, there were 39 flavors of Windows! And in those 39 flavors of Windows, the same batch file, if complicated enough--which this one is--would have the possibility of not working on some of those version. However, at the below link are instructions which, for many, seem to fix the problem of not being able to make the batch file work. Give it a look-see.http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/1433.htmlLawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-16-01, 02:04 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" Lawrence:Thanks for pulling the archive, but I already had read those posts. None of those suggestions work. Changing DOS prompt configuration doesn't apply to Windows 2000 Professional.I also tried the DOS form of the path statement, truncating the actual path to the tilde (~) path. No go either. The "best" I could come up with was not using quote marks around the actual path. Combine then at least creates an error log in My Documents folder. Can the files be manually moved into the merge folder, or must I rely on a batch file to do the extraction and placement? And, thanks again for the quick reply. Nov-16-01, 02:27 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" To manually move the files, you are looking at about 3000-5000 files!*Can* it be done? Yes.Do *I* want to do it? No. Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-16-01, 03:08 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" I haven't been able to get it to work either. One other thing you might try tho, sounds a little wierd, has to do with shortened filenames in batch commands. I dunno about win2kpro, but in win98SE the truncated (is that what they call it? - you know, with the ~1) paths do not work. What does work, oddly enough, is copying the command line with the truncated path, and pasting it into the DOS box. For some odd reason it runs fine that way. Nov-16-01, 03:09 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" Just go delete that file you're trying to run and go get the newest version, the one that also comes with stuffit. It doesn't need to be run off the dos prompt anymore and has dang good instructions. In the file library goto the Utilities section and get combstuf.zip it has both newest version of combined.ref and stuffit.bat and they are much improved and add far more objects than the older version you probably have.-Andy

Nov-16-01, 03:23 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" LAST EDITED ON Nov-16-01 AT 03:24 PM (EST)While that one runs better then Jim's, you won't get all the available objects. You will be short around a couple hundred. Issue was that Kuju used the same object with different names in different routes. Jim's process delt with that plus included missing sd files.Another option is to send a CD to someone that got it to work and they can send you a copy of the merge folder.David Klemm

Nov-19-01, 10:24 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Can't get combine.bat to work!" I have a question with regard to that combstuf.zip file I am using for objects on my route. There is only terrain tile to use, the green default one. Is this .zip file causing the others not to appear in the window of the editor. All the .dat files appear to be in place. Thanks for any assistanceBob Staples Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
