Problems with some track pieces: a2t500mstrt.d & others – image 1

This is really frustrating:After 4 days working, laying all the main tracks for my new route, alongside 215 kmtrs (128 miles), calculating and putting all the markers, joining all the info, gathering objects of all kind, etc, I found the nasty part of it:
When I wanted to edit and change some pieces of track to lay a station, I deleted an a2t500mstrt.d and I found that the database grey lines continued above the piece I deleted, and the blue poles didn't appear, so I couldn't add another pieces, for it gave me the same message: Could not select this track piece. Adjacent track not loaded (or something similar).
I couldn't fix it by no means.
So I deleted the route and restored the oldest backup.
Worse!, this time the route didn't appear in the routes list in the RE
So I uninstalled and re-installed all the MSTS game. But this time was even worse:
When I tried to update the routes with Horace, it told me that these pieces: a2t500mstrt.d, a2t250mstrt.d and a2t250m1d.d had duplicated entrances; and they are the pieces that I used the most, together with a2t8000m1d.d, a1t8000m1d.d, a1t500mstrt.d, for this route has very long straight parts, over flat land.
Then the Horace crashed, and didn't reply anymore. For this reason, and also for personal reasons, my project must be postponed for a couple of months.
But that's a pity, because I really wanted to release this route soon, as I promised to Otto and Roman. I'm sorry for this happened and for this delaying.
By the moment I don't know when I'll be able to continue. But before I resume, I will need to know the cause of this problem, otherwise I cannot go on..
Did anyone experienced something like this before?
I tell you that it happened to me before, but restoring backups, it was fixed. This time I don't know why it screwed up everything.
Apart from that, when I uninstalled all the MSTS, I made mistake and lost another very important big station, from which I had no backup at all I'm sorry to bother you with these questions.
At the same time I'm grateful to you all for all the things you let me learn here enjoying the deepest details of this game, Thanks for all, indeed!

Does not sound like you read the message from Horace correctly. In a standard installation there are three track duplicates made by Kuju but not those track sections. You say Horaced crashed but did it really or was it just that you did not have the patience to wait? Horace takes a LOONG time to complete and while working appears not to respond (cause he's working). Take a break and watch a movie or something while he's working. Besides it does not sound like you have a situation where you need to run Horace. That program is not a "fix all your track work problems" program but for the specific situation where you change from building a route with the original tsection.dat to building a route with a different tsection.dat. Sounds like you've been using the standardized tsection.dat all along and then you don't need Horace.Instead you're problem sounds like a different one not that un-common with MSTS. Track database and world files out of sync and the solution is a TDB rebuild.Another thing, d-files are not a feature of MSTS nor are 8000m sections something I've heard about before. I take it you mean sections a2t500mStrt.s, a2t250mStrt.s & a2t250r1d.s and a2t8000r1d.s, a1t8000r1d.s & a1t500mStrt.s? When talking about track sections it is important to get every letter correct! It makes it difficult to read what you mean when there are errors in the names.

RE: Problems with some track pieces: a2t500mstrt.d & ot

Hi Oki !Eduardo has personal problems involving a member of his family, as he mentioned in his post and my heart goes out to him.Being in such a frame of mind he should really not attempt to focus on anything else and I told him so !The Routes he is working on are less important, he can come back to later when his mind is clear and ready for another fight with the RE !But being a guy like me who sometimes does not like unfinished business in his mind, everything having to be neat, tidy and organised, I wonder whether he is a CAPRICORN also, it's hard to make sense trying !Hope that all works out well, Eduardo !Take Care, both of you !O t t o

Mr.Okrasa:Thank you very much for your post.
I didn't want to bother you with my questions.
But I hoped to receive your message, that I trust. This information is very important for me, and I'll keep it at hand, until I can locate the problem, so I can go on.Well, now I know that the process takes long and I must not interrupt it. And the Horace was not necessary. I'll try to read all carefully and stay calm until I put all in order, then I'm sure it will work fine.
I'll try the rebuilt too.I'll try to learn well these details, so that I don't have the same problem later, where the route in a more advance shape, following the risk of spoiling everything.I even thought that it might have been a problem that stayed in the windows registry, in this case the solution will be to reinstall the O.S. (I hope not)Once again, thank you very much.
Any important comment after I fix it, I'll let you know.Kind regards

Eduardo.

Yes, I made mistake when I wrote the names, because the shape files are .S and never .D, I'm sorry for my error.
Now I could reinstall all, MSTS and Xtracks too.
The only problem still stays inside me route.
It's hardly likely to need a track database rebuilt.
I never needed it before and this will be the first time, though I don't know how.
How should I make the TDB rebuilt?
Here I send some shots of my problem:1) TDB lines seem to be correct before selecting the track piece.
2) I select that specified track piece, and delete it. It disappears, but the grey TDB lines still remain up.
3) I try to select any other track piece, and it shows this error, as shown...It seems that the problem is about one track piece. So I ask for help.
First, to ask what can cause this problem.
Second: if a TDB rebuild is needed, how can I do that?
The RE or RGE don't seem to have nothing to do that.
And as this issue is very touchy, I prefer to ask you, and not to harm the system.Thank you very much in advance...

This does verry much look like a tdb problem.
When you select route in RE you have a button "Advanced..". When you click on that a check-box labeled "Rebuild track database" shows. Check that check-box and click OK (and pray as this not always works and can cause lots of problem, backup before IS manadatory). RE window will open and hopefully fly all over your route while rebuilding tdb.
You are lucky that you have not needed a tdb rebuild before.

RE: Problems with some track pieces: a2t500mstrt.d & ot

If I remember correctly, it is also suggested by Mike Vone and others that before doing a TDB Re-Build the .tdb and .rdb files, if the latter exists, should be renamed. If the Re-build fails, they can be renamed back to their original file names.I think the main reason for doing that is to make sure that the files get written back to disk without having to overwrite the previous versions, if the re-build was successful, that is ! But as Okrasa mentions, a prior Back-Up of the entire Route is strongly recommended, to come back to no matter what could go wrong during a Re-Build ! This should be a standard routine during all it's development stages. The more the better !!!O t t o

Thanks for the suggestion:I'm testing in the A.E. now.
By first sight it seems that the path is complete from Beginning to End.
I have a problem when I want to zoom in a specified location, that the AE freezes, but I don't know if it's due to the database. I have to do more tests on it.
Later I will read all the texts that you recommend me. My knowledge is not so advanced, but I have to investigate more deeply right now.
Sooner or later we must experience this.Regards...

A freeze in AE is an indication of a problem somewhere and it can often be track related. I would take a closer look at the tracks in the area where AE freezes. Try getting the exact location of the freeze by slowly scrolling the AE window from different directions toward where it freezes.

Hi Eduardo !Are you testing in the AE using an existing Activity ?I had similar a couple of times and found that deleting all Activities, Services, Paths and Traffic, if any, files and creating a new one worked !

Making changes in the tracks layout sometimes confuses the existing Activities. Take Care, O t t o.
