New installment in my recent series of threads. Picture shows the Y-track from "Turning on a dime" http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/11948.html My question is how to place signals to allow an AI-train to pass while players train is occupying the Y block? AI train should be able to go either way blocks A-B-C or C-B-A while player is occupying block Y. Points 1, 2 & 3 is where I imagine signals would be needed to divide the blocks for allowing this to work. Block B is extremely small, only a few meters and I imagine this could be a problem. Could be expanded by moving points 1 & 2 but point 3 should be a meter or two from the main line. Added to this AI train should stop at 1 if meeting player on block C and AI should stop at 2 if meeting player on block A.

Hi Oki !Question has been asked before about what the practical purpose of such a tight Y would be.I can imagine it being very useful for quickly turning a Loco 180°, not being able to use Turntables ? How to prevent another train running into it while the Switch is still set for the Y-track by the Loco which used it ? Would a signal on the Main Line know that this spur is occupied and stop traffic ?An AI Path set straight for the Main Line would it ignore the Switch set into the Y spur ?Take Care, O t t o.
Hi, OkrasaI would first try a standard signal setup for a wye. Place an absolute signal at locations 1, 2 and 3 facing away from the wye. You will also need signals at the roughly 1, 2 and 3 locations facing traffic LEAVING the wye block.I assume there will be a reverse point somewhere on the letter Y track. Once the player train has cleared the wye exit signal and has not reached the reverse point, signals on the main should clear for AI.There is evidence that blocks 10 meters or shorter give signal operation a problem. If this works, I can't predict if your requirement set in the last sentence will work.Regards, Hank
OK, I set up the configuration you have with the stub switches with signals placed as illustrated.A player starts in block C, followed by AI at block C 30sec later. Player proceeds to block Y. AI stops at singal 2 until player clears the wye block, then proceeds to block A. Player reverses on Y and proceeds to block C.In another test. Player starts at C and AI starts at A simultaneously. The player receives a clear signal 2 to Y while AI receives stop at signal 1. When player clears the wye, signal 1 clears for AI to proceed to block B and C. The player reverses on Y and holds at stop signal 3 until AI clears block C. Player then receives a clear to proceed to block C.The signal I used was the CLV1abs from one of my sets. How this might change with your 'micro' wye, I have no idea.Regards, Hank
Thanks for your help Hank! I could not get it to work, always got a Mexican standoff . Don't know if it's because I don't know much about signals or it's because they are too close together in this micro-wye. Whatever, I'm not going to dive deep into this. Tracks works as intended and someone else can look into the signaling once it is released. Thanks anyway, appreciate the help.
Okrasa,For some reason when I tried this track config with a default JP2 signal, it didn't work. When I set it up with one of my simplest signals, it worked. If you want, I can send the one signal and the script to run it.Regards, Hank
Hmm, could be. I used one of the BNSF signals. I have most of your signal packs somewhere, perhaps should try and locate that signal you referenced. Or if you can mail that simple signal with script would be even better. The route is a one tile beta route with things I try out and completely replacing the signal script is not a problem. Would be nice to know if it works before release so that I can include directions on how to use it.
