Just ran a small exploratory run - EXCELLENT! Run your trainset at very slow speeds and pan around and see how deep the scenery is. Beautiful job!

Outstanding route...after running WE6 and WE7 for the past couple years, I couldn't download WE8 fast enough! Got it last night from www.the-train.de -- very easily done, two 25MB parts, they contain self-installers and then run a batch file. I was up and running within half an hour. Amazing the amount of detail that has been put into WE8...amazing how much it is changed from the previous versions, now that the track plan is more prototypical. And Ihaven't gotten any screen stall out of it yet...good frame rates in the teens the whole way from Mongladenbach (sp?) to Essen so far. It's definitely a route for commuter and passengers fans like myself....I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in such.

>cabs? Nope. The switchers aliase from G38, the steering cars from Acela.
One target was to offer a very compact package easily accessible to modest Modem users (cabs and sounds are often VERY bulky!)Some of the needed third-party downloads do have specific cab/sound.But nobody prevents you of inserting your preferred cabs/sounds at leisure, will not hurt acts, and is easy to achieve. Most German users would aliase to widely sold professional GR or PT pay add-on engines, or some good freewares.
I even gave a few suggestions in the Readme of WE8_STOCKFIX in WE8ACTS.zip as to appropriate stuff, and there is so much around !

OldieDaddy,With your help about the required downloads, I am now enjoying Wupper for the first time. An awesome job by the route developers.Bob Kambach"Home" is about 500 Yds. from the famous "Pequest Fill" on the abandoned "DL&W Cutoff"

RE: Wupper Express 8 uploaded

Yes, I also want to add how great this route is. Absolutely fantastic offering in freeware, and not a terribly big download either. In the activity pack, there is a PDF document with a really nice color map of the system. However, when I print it out, many of the words in it are just too blurry to make out. While analyzing the PDF file, it seems to me that the JPEG compression applied to the image has made it too blurry. Would it be possible to get the original version of that wonderful color map as a seperate download so that it can be printed out with all the words intact?

RE: Wupper Express 8 uploaded

@ jorgeThanks for your compliments & suggestion (Relayed to Author Team)An unpredictable event of private nature hampered the final version of the document of getting timely incorporated into the Download package.
G15 had set a release deadline for 10.10.2004, and WE8 did make it 99.98% !As soon as revised, a matter of a few days I guess, Graphics 15 would supply a better map, and also illustrated specific Signal Aspects explanations, plus minor second rank bug fixes.
Would then get published on all mirror sites. In the meantime, enjoy WE8 !P.S. Tried late evening rides ? On most Routes, a boring NIGHTmare. On WE8, a firework !Love and Peace

There are custom cabs available from www.the-train.de though. The only stuff I have not been able to find custom cabs for there, are the BR360/V60 switcher, and the double-decker driving trailer. I think these cabs are only available commercially.

Custom Cabviews

The cabs off most newer German locomototives (~70s and later) are built on kit systems, that is using the same layout and basic parts. So even all locos still have their own unique cab fatures, any 70s electric loco cab will quite prototypically fit for any other 70s built electric engine. You can also try to use cabs from some other European countries, unless them being French or Italian where they run their trains on the left hand track. For those of you looking for older German caviews (60s/70s): Although being of the former German Democratic Republic's "Deutsche Reichsbahn", there are really well done cabs included in the rolling stock set that came with the Neubrandenburg Route (should be available on the-train.de). Those cabviews will somewhat fit to West German "Deutsche Bundesbahn" engines as well, unless you're a real purist. Now I only wish I could get a hold of that new Wupper Express...Reading all your enthusiasm, it must be a heck of a route. Well, I know it will be great, so thanks a lot to all of you who made and contributed to it!!!Michael

RE: Wupper Express 8 uploaded

For the dual-floor cabcar you could perhaps try the custom cab that comes with the latest version of the Re450 S-Bahn (Commuter Rail) units of the Swiss RR, whose cabcars are contemporary mates to the latest German ones. It's even available on this site (search the file library for "sbnv11.zip")Lukas a.k.a Swissie

Michael, Lukas,Thanks for the cab suggestions, guys! I'll have to try them out once I get home. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing German equipment up close, but I knew that the cab from the Acela and GP38 didn't have the right "feel". It's great to have input from folks who are familiar with the equipment.Take care,Henry

RE: Wupper Express 8 uploaded

Hallo!
I've looked at the-train once more. The cab is for the western V60. It's called DB V60. If it was the eastern V60, its name would be DR V60.
Here's the original text from the website:
Führerstand der DB V60 für die Verkehrsrote DB Cargo 365 (hat keine Sicht nach Rechts, dafür nach hinten) und für die Türkisfarbene DB BR 261. Für die Loks von Volker Bollig.
You find the name of Volker Bollig in the text. You can have a look at his site http://www.vmbollig.de/msts/ and you'll see, that he only built V60 from western Germany.

RE: Wupper Express 8 uploaded

Well, WE8 is definitely in the West !
I mean, don't take it that pinpointing. While GDR (communist Eastern Germany) and BRD (Western Germany) were painfully split for 4 decades 1949-1989 (everybody knows why !), lots of railroad related things evolved on not too distant parallel tracks.French myself, their BR/DR/DB engine series numbering sometimes frankly puzzle me, too.Fans, just insert the best looking cab (to suit YOUR taste) !
WE8 has no pretention to be 100% prototypical, and the G15 stock even less.
Purists, you know where to get the 'right' stuff !Enjoy WE8 !

So all European countries run their trains on the right tracks, except for France, Italy and England? Any other European countries run on the left track? I thought Spain ran on the left track too. (But maybe I'm thinking of Italy.)

Norway runs right-handed. Sweden runs left-handed (luckily there are no double-track lines crossing the border, for now..). Not sure about Denmark. Switzerland runs left-handed, Austria runs left-handed in the west, and right-handed in the east - I think Salzburg is the change point. Ireland probably runs on the left. Pretty certain Belgium runs on the left, not sure about the Netherlands.

There's something I really liked, above all: The Signals.Who made them?
I haven't seen these signals before.
Having a poor graphic card, this is the first time that I can see the signals colours from a long distance, so brightly. As far as I'm approaching to them, they look fine, nice, and detailed. It's something worth to comment.Hats off to the authors!

The signals were made by Graphics 15 Team. Inspired by MLT's SigView and a few other recent developments, improved by a graphic expert through thorough Mip levels, fine-tuned in position and colors.

RE: Wupper Express 8 uploaded

No, not linked to line colors on mapWhite and blue carriages are for InterRegio (IR), mid range trains.
White and red are for german InterCity (e.g. Munich-Cologne) resp. intereuropean EuroCity (e.g. Chur-Zürich-Cologne-Amsterdam) long range trains.
Deep blue are TEN, TransEuroNight international sleepers.
Rest are just various regional/local consists in different liveries.Love and Peace
