I have a GeForce 4 Ti4600 but its only 4x and I bought this card before directX 9.0 came out I have good graphics with the card I have but since I have directX 9.0 now with Windows XP Home I wanted to get something that is 8x and not 4x and something that is designed for directX 9.0, I was thinking about getting the ATI-Radeon 9800 Pro with 128MB, I dont have enough for the GeForce 5900 Ultra because thats 499.99 bucks, but will the 9800 Pro work well with MSTS or what do you think I should buy to replace my old GeForce 4 Ti4600 at 4x and only works with DirectX 8.1?

4, 8x, AGP, its all whoopie-do marketing, I have a Radeon 9700 pro, running at 4x because of instabilities with the motherboard (lesson here is, Don't buy the first Mobo to support 8x!) Anyway, your current card has some life left, But it's your money, And if your gonna spend, I'd highly recommend a 9700 or 9800 pro

Hi Ben,First of all take a deep breath.
There may be cards that have an 8x interface, but no card can run any faster than about 3x. Please visit www.tomshardware.com and have a look at their video card shootout to verify.DX7, DX8 or DX9 makes NO difference as MSTS is not coded for DX9, its coded for DX7, until such time as MSTS is coded for DX9, no need to worry. You would be better to wait till MSTS2 comes out then reasses what you need.Derek edit for DX7

I'm using a 4600 with DX9.0b no problem. There aren't that many games or apps specifically designed around DX9.0 available yet anyway and by the time there are they'll probably be obsoleted by the technology that's current at their release.Until I see a marked degradation in performance when installing newer games I'll probably stick with what I have. It's nice to have the best of the best of the best when it's available and you can afford it but if it aint broke don't fix it. That merry-go-round gets real expensive real fast.

RE: Thinking of changing graphic cards?

Hi Ben !I recently installed FS-2400 and with it DirectX-9a on my WIN-XP Home TI-4600 machine. Did not do much for FS-2400 compared with the FS-2002 I retained and nothing for MSTS.Until the Software is coded for the latest in Graphics Technology you are just wasting money, the slight improvement in quality and performance being disproportionate to the money spent !
