who says it's good or great? Most bug infested, Crash-worthy, color manipulating sorry excuse for a sim ever, What makes the sim bearable is the countless hours the members of the community pour into it to make a better train-sim

I agree. The people who have contributed so much (Both freeware and payware) are the ones have have kept an otherwise horrid original game alive.

Without sounding 'trite' or otherwise treacly, I'd say that the people involved make this great. If I was stuck solely with what came with the game and was all on my own for activities, operations, background, and information, the disc would be collecting dust on a shelf somewhere, and I'd still be roaming the North Atlantic in a Type VIIC, IX, or XXI U-boat or plodding around in a 1950s fog of fun with propliners and early jets. It's what others have brought to the game, and the usual fun of a game sparking interest in the larger picture. Before I got into this, I understood that at some point, the Norfolk & Western became the Norfolk Southern who had these things called excursions which I went on but which were cancelled, and that there was some railroad named 'CSX', and that the Union Pacific had something called 'Big Boys'. Now, I've got lots more knowledge that extends into American history, American economics, American politics, and a link to a past that made our future possible. Kind of unusual how it took a computer game to finally achieve the critical mass necessary to reignite an interest dormant since early childhood. Nevertheless, MSTS gets respect from me for that. What's so great is that I got all of this for only twenty bucks. Hooray for Microsoft. (Someone call Cicero and have him check the Inferno's temperature; I have a feeling it may be snowing...)

Nevertheless, MSTS gets respect from me for that. Very well put. I've loved trains ever since I was a young boy. Have always wanted a nice model railroad, but never had the space for anything more than the ubiquitous 4'x8'HO layout. It was fun, but got a bit boring after while. In comparison, I can fit Marias Pass, Tehachapi, Raton, and several more in my computer. I can operate the trains from an almost infinite number of perspectives (views) and thanks to all the many wonderful and talented people who are kind enough to share their creations with the less talented folks like myself, there's almost no end to the variety of motive power and rolling stock I can operate; nor the time of day or night, seasons and weather conditions in which I can operate.Yes, MSTS has its bugs, but we as a community have learned to work around most of them... and when you really delve into all that's going on in the Sim, it really is a marvel that it works as well as it does for a V1(.2).
