Has anyone perceived that the downloads at this time tonight (9:00 pm NZ time) seem ot be rather slow ? Something I haven't noted for a long time now. My fastest speed on my dialup connection was about 2.6 kps. My best is usually around 5.5 kps. Anyone have a reason for this ? Perhaps it's too many callers downloading the new routes uploaded since yesterday ? Ultra saturation ?Regards...Jim McDermott

>NSW G'day, Ray !Seems it IS definitely difficult to get onto the Train-Sim.com site at the present time... most probably due to the fact that there were two or more new routes uploaded revently, and like myself, I wanted them all YESTERDAY, rather than take my time one file at a time, and I simply kept retrying to logon repeatedly until I got on, and set two files to be downloaded in GetRight at once. Anymore than two with a dialup modem, and it's too slow. I usually get at least 2.7 kps with two files going at once.Once they were done, I repeated my attempts to logon, and it still was very difficult, but i got on again and did two more files. This went on until i got the entire 7 files for the route I wanted, and I got them alright. My method of attempting to logon is to double-click my username field ( using Internet Explorer 6.0) and then once on my password field, and they both come up quickly with no typing to do at all, and I find this definitely faster than typing continuously if I find a "busy signal" which is usually the case. Sometimes I do actually get on first try, but it's not often. If you haven't tried this method of logging on, at least give it a go. It makes the mouse hand tired after about a hundred repeated tries, but believe me, it does eventually work.Lastly, you might be interested to know that quite often I use as a password for some sites, the road number of one of the 442 Class, as I lived in Sydney for 10 years from 1981 to 1991 and saw most of the NSW diesels, although I have to admit that my favourite ones were the 422 and 421 classes, having ridden in the cabs of at least two 422's, and ridden behind various 442's, I got to like the class as well, the longest runs being between Broadmeadow, NSW, and Roma Street, Qld. - over 500 miles. Even got a ride in the cab of a Qld Railways EMU between Nambour and Northgate, at speeds of up to 120 km/h back in 1988. OK, said my piece here. So take care eh ?Regards...Jim McDermott

RE: Downloads...

G'day again Jim,Funny you mentioned the 422's and 442 "Jumbos",as I am a driver with Pacific National..(formally Freightcorp, formally State Rail, formally New South Wales Government Railways).........et al, I liked the 422'2 ,The Jumbos and their half brothers, the 80 Classes. All have now been sold/scrapped,except for a few. I still get to drive 44211 with the NSWRTM,as it is preserved in running order for fan trips.
No doubt you have downloaded them off this site, as I have done.
As for downloads......all I want at present is the zip for the DT & I 85 foot boxcar, as I somehow lost the file, and get a stinkin' error message about it when I fire up.
Well,back to the login.................
Cheers mate,
Ray

>44211 Seems I pipped you at the post, mate. Got it two days back and believe me, I had a lot of work to do before I could even get it running properly. The only thing I didn't have to do was change the name of the folder for the blue 81 Class locos, as I had never used them in any of my activities, preferring the Candy ones, as I've always liked that scheme. There's also a problem you may or may not be aware of yet, relating to, I think it was, the NGTY wagons. That or one of the others, has a call for an empty version, of which there isn't one at all. I made one for myself by duplicating the folder and renaming the .wag, .s & .sd files to NGTY_ety (again, if that was the right wagon) and changed the lines in the .wag and .sd files as well and presto, I had my own empty version, which oddly enough, doesn't appear to have been included in the NGTY archive itself, and which must have been created by the person who put out the Coal Road route, at some stage and he forgot about mentioning it in the Docs perhaps ? The route itself is a good one, and the winding curves are pretty realistic... the 4-track main from Maitland is really good. What brasses me off though, is the fact that some opposing trains are actually 84 (and more) cars, and your framerates suffer BIG TIME !!!Would like your feedback on this route once you get it setup and play it a few times... would be interesting I think. Catch ya later.RegardsJim McDermott

RE: Downloads...

Getting back to the subject of the original post here; it's 7AM Sunday morning EST, I'm trying to download GM&O route for a couple days now. I have a charter membership and a cable modem, yet my download speeds have fallen to less than 5KbPS! If I didn't know better I'd say my wife got in to my computer and ripped out my LAN connection and swapped it out for one of my old 2400 baud modems.Or, maybe Nels has had to swap out his T1 for some old 2400 baud modems.5K on a Sunday morning is not due to internet traffic, there's a problem somewhere and it doesn't appear to be on my end since the internet is otherwise working fine for me.Jeff Leslie

>Jeff Leslie Now, THAT is definitely a very bad situation indeed ! There could be any number of reasons for this happening. How old is the modem anyway ? If it's fairly new, then forget it. It's not likely to be your end that's the problem either. My speeds appear to be back to normal, apart from a slight drop to below 4 kps. The DU Meter I use seems to be not quite up to speed either... usually shows around 5.7 to 5.8 but the top of the red graph bar seems to look rather ragged and uneven, denoting that the speeds are a little uneven and fluctuating somewhat. That's only on the Train-Sim.com site. AVSIM.com seemed considerably faster when I downloaded some files off there. I only have a dialup modem, and am happy with my speeds, but maybe sometime soon, this (Southern Hemisphere) winter, my ISP will be dropping the price of their broadband connections, because only about 3% of the total domestic customers are using broadband, and son't want to be forced to pay through the nose for a faster connection. If this happens (the price drop) I may well get a faster modem and join the 'JetSet'.Regards...Jim McDermott
