Just got a new computer with Windows XP-Pro, and a lot of other goodies.Did a fresh install of MSTS. Got the program up and running, but am unable to use the keyboard for commands. I seem to remember seeing something about Windows XP and MSTS but can't find anything.Any ideas?

RE: Keyboard Problem

Yes.....F1 does work, but that's the only key that does. The mouse activates various controls, but the loco will not move.

RE: Keyboard Problem

I know you're trying to help, but I went to...Start / Help / and did a Search on Sticky Keys and found nothing. I did find what it was but could not find how to disable it.

RE: Keyboard Problem

Go to the Control Panel, look for accessibility options, and on the keyboard tab you should find a check box to turn StickyKeys on and off. If you can't find accessibility options in the Control Panel, you might have to switch to Classic View so that all the icons appear.

RE: Keyboard Problem

>Turn off the sticky keys function which is on by default in
>XP. Strange but it was NOT "on by default" when I bought MY computer with Windows XP pre-installed.And because I screwed something up big-time a few months ago, I had to do a re-install of Windows XP from the system CD's. And it did not bring up sticky keys as "on by default" then, either.

RE: Keyboard Problem

I also have XP and have the same problem. As soon as MSTS starts I hit the Windows logo key on the keyboard (the one between the left Ctrl and Alt keys) which brings up the start panel and desktop, then I can go back into MSTS and the keyboard works fine.I checked and my sticky keys are also UN-checked. My options are also correct within MSTS. I doubt that the problem is with our computers or XP, it's probably something within MSTS.

RE: Keyboard Problem

Man..this is weird. I bought a WinXP Pro computer, maxed out, about a year and a half ago, specifically to run Train-Sim. I installed Train-Sim, it worked and, with the exception of when I have screwed up or had hardware issues, it has continued to work. Never ever ran into this keyboard issue. There must be something about the way individual installers set up XP on a new machine. Charlie

RE: Keyboard Problem

It could very well be that if you install MSTS on an existing XP system that you won't have a problem. I installed XP as an upgrade to Win 98 and MSTS was already installed on my system, so I wouldn't be suprised if the problem lies there. Also, the problem only appears to happen within the sim, RE and AE apparently are not affected.

RE: Keyboard Problem

OK.....I've tried THAT!! That is, hit the Windows Logo Key. That brings up the start panel, etc. But.....when I try to go back into MSTS, the screen just goes blank. That is, after trying to click on the Train Simulator bar on the task bar. Clicking on the TrainSim Desktop Icon brings up..."Train Simulator is already running" obviously.Need more ideas!

RE: Keyboard Problem

Follow-up:Changed keyboards. New comp came with a Logitech keyboard w/ extra buttons on the top...volume, e-mail, www, etc.Went back to a "regular" keyboard and your double-click of the Windows Key worked...most of the time. So, we need to find a better soultion to this "problem" me thinks!

RE: Keyboard Problem

It sounds like nobody has a clue, and neither do I.I have MSTS set up on a windows xphome system, and everything works fine. I would ask whoever set up your machine to help you, as some setting you have on yours is different to mine! Do you get the introductary start up sequence? I don't, and am very glad of it! LOL!David

RE: Keyboard Problem

OK everyone.....I think I might have solved the 'problem' with the new keyboard and Windows XP-Pro. At least for now!I did the fresh install of MSTS, but had not gotten around to "cleaning" it up by deleting things like the start-up mpg. After I got rid of the mpg, everything appears to be normal now. Thanks for all the suggestions and hope this helps future XP owners.

RE: Keyboard Problem

Was just about to post that - as I posted in the other thread about this - turning off the startup logo seems to fix it.I had one computer with XP which was later patched to SP1 - no problem, the other came with XP SP1 already and that one always had problems.
