There were a couple of people hanging out waiting for Clinton Sub session last night.... I was taking Amtrak #6 eastbound, all set to highball but no DS ....What happened, John???IDEA: Y'all DO know that this is the ex-C&NW mainline across Iowa, right? How about doing a "fallen flag" session with C&NW equipment, circa 1970?JBD

Same thing that happened with Cascades.... He was late or didn't even show. Second time I have joined in on a MP only to find the dispatcher read the time wrong and shows up late. Nothing againest you John, but if your going to dispatch, be there on time. How about another idea...do away with track warrents. A few people were ready to roll Friday night only to find that they needed track warrents, something that wasn't mentioned in the call up. A lot of time was wasted Friday night between being late and track warrents. Track warrents are great, adds some realism to the sim, but when it is just you (i.e. no conductor), its kind of hard to screw with track warrents and keep your train under control too.Probally be a long time before waste my time with another session. Lot of work needs to be done to insure MP sessions attract and keep people.Chris Bogley Syracuse New Yorkwww.msnusers.com/cnytrains www.msnusers.com/ashleyphotography

LAST EDITED ON Sep-20-04 AT 05:00 PM (EDT)
The Cascades session: I had a miscalculation on the time as the time should be posted as CDT, or at least thats what I thought. I extended my appologies to those during that session. The Clinton Sub Session: There were two trains from what I saw. Thats not enough trains to have a good session. I'm going to start posting a minimum for number of people that have to be there. BTW, how many people were there for the Clinton Sub? I saw two entries. BTW, since I have nothing to do Saturday, we are going to try one more time and I will show up 30 minutes early. Nice suggestion Jim: http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID23/224.html
RE: Clinton Sub: What happened? ... and an idea...
One thing I've learned from observing model railroad operating sessions is that if there is ANY kind of instability (layout, on-time, missing crew members, etc.) that the sessions die horrible, miserable deaths and people will NOT come back.Same thing COULD be said here.... Not directing this solely at John, but if you call it, you'd better be there or post a note on the forum as to the status. Better yet: have someone as a designated back-up dispatcher. I never dispatch my own railroad when I invite crews over to operate. I always let someone else handle that job so I'm available to deal with other issues along the way.In my case, I did NOT mark up for the session but it worked out that I was so I was expecting to jump into a session and OOPS!Anyways, let's ALL try to stay on top of things....Chris: Don't bail yet.... I probably should have jumped in and dispatched the CC Friday night but had an early start for Saturday with a parade scheduled... John had a good learning experience when the tank train behind me (Amtrak) ran several red signals and rear-ended me! LOL POSITIVE BLOCK REQUIRED BEHIND ALL PASSENGER TRAINS, FOLKS.... That means a train can't follow past an absolute signal until the passenger train clears the next absolute signal...Happy rails.... JBD
RE: Clinton Sub: What happened? ... and an idea...
Actually, Andy started to call it, had all of us moving, only to have John pop in and tell us to start over 30 minutes later. Hows that for realistic?I have thought about calling another TPII session, but I never know what will come up, which is what happened the last time when I had to cancel the session 90 minutes before it started.About the tank train, yeah, I picked up on what happened there. The tank train should have been paying attension to what signals the Amtrak was calling and vice versa. Had something similar like that happen on a TPII session, where one train wasn't calling off his location, come to find out he was about a mile behind another train, doing 23mph while the other one was doing about 18mph. Ooooooooooooor, I probably should have found out where everyone was and taken it from there and not make ya'll start over. Yes Jim, POSITIVE BLOCKS. You can rest assured that I will never forget that.
