Thanks to Pegasuswtal for posting this link to the MSTS2 mpg videos, nice to see a sneak peek of how the sim's going to look.http://www.trainlink.de/Although, I can already see a couple things that I know are going to be slightly annoying when playing the sim; hopefully Microsoft/Kuju, etc. can remedy these before they release it.In the video titled 'TS2movie' from the above link, we see passengers walking on a station platform, some go into the station, others go into a passenger car, and some turn into ghosts and walk through other people!! I thought the real-life RR's didn't want dead people depicted in MSTS. Heh heh heh. Also, I love the working turntable, but in the video titled 'Mov02' the Pennsy steam loco moves ahead every time a track comes in line with the turntable's track, which looks strange and 'robotic'.Other than these two things, so far it looks like a great improvement over MSTS1!2 Things Microsoft Should Fix Before Release – image 1

If you look carefully, it is actually "jolting" forward & back just a little bit, which is common, I believe

No, not that. For example: Get running really fast, then stop quickly. You jolt forward. I think that's what going on with the turntable: Inertia, and Newton's First Law of Motion

Inertia wouldn't cause the locomotive to "jolt" forward by halting it's lateral motion. Not to mention that both ends of the locomotive would try to "jolt" the opposite direction of each other. Essentially trying to twist the chassis. Not much impetus for the loco to "jolt" forward. And something else to consider. Contrary to what is shown in the video, you aren't going to be rotating several hundred tons (Loco + turntable) all too quickly. -Jeff

RE: 2 Things Microsoft Should Fix Before Release

Having run engines onto and off of a turntable many times, I assure you that you will NOT experience acute centrifigal forces. (As in abrupt brake application in an auto will produce.)Running light with an engine (or set of engines) and using the engine brake to make a heavy air ap stop will result in a slight sensation of centrifigal force, but not much. Too much mass in motion there. And yes, a turntable turns at a very slow speed... MAYBE 1 RPM.Andre Ming

Eh, where did my signature go?
Where has my favourite LUL train gone? Maybe it was sent for bolt checking again...

One thing's for sure: I won't be able to check it out to find out for sure... the one that was local is gone. The one that I have had personal experience using is now about 2 1/2 hours drive from me, instead of the 25 minutes it was previously. (We moved.)As for RPM speed, you could be right, that was a guess at best. Never had cause to time the thing, just use it about 8-9 times a day.Andre

My bad. I was just trying to relieve myself after a science test that I'm pretty sure I did bad on. Heard of "standardized Tests"?

I don't think that this program has even reached beta stage, so any concern show here for possible glitches seems way premature to me.Early days yet, chaps.Bruce.

RE: 2 Things Microsoft Should Fix Before Release

3 things, that *&^%$#! front coupler bug is number one.As for the jerky turntable, the track database thingy they're using for MSTS 1 (and probably for 2 as well ) is probably the cause of that. Look closely in the external view at cars going thru the curve part of a trailing point switch set against the train sometime, you'll see the back end of each car "snaps" over to the straight track with a pronounced jerk as it's passing the frog.

RE: 2 Things Microsoft Should Fix Before Release

Guys,I know i am in the wrong forum for this but i have a few opinions.First, I would love to see if anybody would be able to hotwire that M1a and the matching PRR Cars from MSTS II to MSTS 1 also. And even though Microsoft seems to deny it, I believe that much of the 3D cars and equipment were built not by Kuju as in the previous MSTS incarnation, but by Train Artisan, hence the beatutiful paintwork and huge attention to detail. I have also been looking forward to using a wroking turntable. With this in mind, alsoi think of the possibilities. You could set up an activity where you have to help another PRR Coal Drag or freight up over Horseshoe Curve, after which you will cut your engine off, and turn around at the Helper wye at Gallitzin, after which you would head back to Altoona and another shove...Also, where can I get the front coupler bug fix for MSTS 1? I tried to find it, but was unable to.

RE: 2 Things Microsoft Should Fix Before Release

This thread:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/18876.htmlhas the zip for MSTS 1.3 (unofficial) front coupler fix, also has a link to the 1.1 patch. I never tried installing 1.2 without installing 1.1 first, does somebody know offhand if the 1.2 content update includes the 1.1 files? FYI, the brake release fix for 1.1 is in the train.exe file, all that was tested and discussed when the 1.1 patch first came out, but the server crashes ate all those threads. Either way, the "1.3 (unofficial) fix" also needs the train.exe file from the patch to work. Check the date on \Train Simulator\train.exe, if it's May of 2001 it's the original that won't release the brakes when coupling on with the front coupler.
