It started with this;http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID15/3811.htmlWhich led to this:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/12214.htmlAnd I tried it out on the PO&N 9 beta, which looks like this:Anyone want to take a look for themselves, first you need the PO&N9 beta:www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/downloads/pon9beta.zip(That's a 7.5 meg download)Then two more small zipfiles:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/40f948676e5bae1f.ziphttp://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/40fb2856565cbb4a.zipAfter downloading all three; 1. Extract, copy, or move to \Train Simulator\Routes. 2. Run the \portogden9b\installme.bat. 3. Then run salad.bat to create the necessary textures for the addon scenery. 4. Run 1forest.bat to switch to standard forest region scenery.Start the game, choose Wipfel for the starting point, drive thru Chippewa Falls and check out scenery quality and framerates. Escape to exit back to the trainsim menu, ALT-TAB out of trainsim. Go into the portogden9b folder, run 1gantree.bat or 1bush.bat, ALT-TAB back into trainsim, restart the activity and look at the same area again. You can switch back and forth among all three as many times as you like, the bats just copy one of three renamed world files over the .w for that quad.Comments and opinions welcome, which looks the best/worst, which gives the best framerates. Personal attacks and insults are also welcome, Shawn hasn't had a good workout in a while now, wouldn't want him getting lazy and sloppy. Hee-hee, sorry Shawn, The Devil made me say it!
Heheheh, always the joker Jim Shawn K, Screenshot & Yard Forum Mod. E-Mail is in profile. TKW repainter, Specializing in NY's fallen roads! The NYO&W.. Running from somewhere to nowhere, But never forgotten
Yikes, no response at all, good bad or indifferent? I think they're all scared of you, Shawn! Well, anyway, more screenies since this is the screenshot forum. I have LongHairedWizard's refinery thingys in Texas Tea for this version, and they look great but that comes at a price - they are kinda overstuffed with polygons. Using Turbo.exe:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/12206.htmlTo slow my 2.66ghz down to 50%, or 1.33ghz, I ran some framerate tests:In the refinery I got the lowest drop, 11FPSLooking back at Texas Tea, still 11FPS until the fractionator thingamys dropped out of sight.Coming into Chippewa Falls, up to 14FPS.Once inside Chippewa Falls, 18FPS.That was with shadows and specular lighting off, everything else cranked all the way to ohmygod.Max I hit was 24FPS, so I tried again, this time lowering the visibility slider to 1000 meters. Still 11FPS in the refinery, but 30FPS outside the refinery and in Chippewa Falls.I suspect the quick answer to this will be to reset the ESD detail level for that 4500 poly fractionating complex to 10, that way those with slowpoke machines can just set the world object density slider to 9 and get better framerates. Shame, cuz it's so I'd rather see it and lose a few FPS.
Little tour of the progress so far, this time in Autumn. Tried to make the sky less orange, looks too yellow now, I'll get it eventually. Framerates this time are without the Turbo slowdown, full speed ahead:P-4 2.66ghz Radeon 9700 1024MB RAMWhole point of the PO&N9 expansion is spreading out the switching areas by stretching the mainline, this is the "buffer quad" between Chippewa Falls and Texas Tea. Nothing but trees and bushes, 50FPS.Crossing into the Texas Tea quad, still 50FPS.Catching up to an AI train as Huff Refinery looms ahead, dropping to 35FPS.Inside the refinery FPS drops to 25-30 anytime the view is rotated toward Bill's framigatorades (forgot what they're called), I changed the ESD detail level to 10 so they'll be gone for the slowpoke systems.Inside the refinery but not looking at the WhatEverYaCallIts, back up to 48FPS.Looking back over the shoulder, drops to 30FPS as the Thingamies come into the field of view.Into the buffer quad between Texas Tea and Shea coal mine, back up to 50FPS.Straight ahead into the coal mine, throw the switch right to continue on the mainline. Haven't finished the coal mine quad yet.Meeting AI traffic in the buffer quad between Shea coal mine and Anderson yard, 47FPS. This is all autogantry, no forest regions here.Coming into the west end of Anderson, Larry Friddle's suburban blocks on the left, with John Milligan's city blocks in the distance. In Anderson yard, still not done with this. Needs more buildings and static trains, drops to 30-35FPS even with all the bare spaces.Heading south from new Anderson toward old Anderson, more of Larry Friddle's suburban blocks across the river.Old Anderson, these are all dummy tracks and static trains.Well, back to the grindstone, ain't gonna git it done sitting here admiring what I already did!
