It's been said several times here that the soundcfg.dat sets the amount of memory allocated for sound. Supposedly 30Meg, or 32Meg for scalability 5 - How is this increased? I've tried modifying what appeared to be the memory allocations but my guess is this does not work because MSTS crashed upon startup. Exactly what is it that needs to be modified in soundcfg to increase the memory allocation? Thanks for the help.Mike S.

RE: Memory allocation for sound

Living in the UK I have been using this setting for months without a problem. I have also used it it on the other levels ..gradually reducing the numbers without any apparent problems. Apply the MSTS philosphy....BACK UP first and then try ...and try again..then give up because it was flawed anyway:7

RE: Memory allocation for sound

Edit soundcfg.dat in the Global folder, remember it's unicode. This is my current SG5 section (for high sound detail setting) Skip ( Scalability 5 - Memory Guide 60M )
SoundTimer ( 5, 30, 5 )
AudioStream ( 5, 500, 100 )
SoundSystem ( 5, 200, 20, 62914560 )
TrainMinMaxDistance ( 5, 25.0, 1000.0 )
AmbientMinMaxDistance ( 5, 20.0, 1000.0 )
Rolloff ( 5, 1.0 )The third line also gives you more simultaneous streams than the default level.
