RE: Whats wrong with this picture?

I think the yellow horns are the experimental ultra-sonic ones used in the late 60'sI think TYCO was the first to model this on the “Silver Streak” and the “Golden Eagle” exposing the CIA plans to use plans to use train horns to brainwash railfans into confronting protestors who were blocking trains with nuclear materials on board.I may be wrong…Robert

The trucks look to me like the type that were used on C628's.

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?

I knew it had to be the Alco trucks. It looked out of place and funny on the E-units. I used to have a few Tycos in a early days. I had one favorite engine at the time, it was the "Spirit of '76" locomotive. I used to run it all the time. It was an Alco with B-trucks. I don't exactly remember the model number for Alco at the time, It could be a C430. One thing I didn't like about Tyco was it only had one powered truck on all their locos. But, they were cheap at the time. Ken Whats wrong with this picture? – image 24

You know you're a foamer when...

Wow! I never would've picked up on the trucks! My guess is Tyco probably had only a couple of trucks in production that they used for several locomotives, prototypical or not.

>they used for several locomotives, prototypical or not. Yes, you are very correct there. Saved a lot of design work, diemaking, etc. They even put this Alco-trucked underbody under a too-short GG-1 body at one time, believe it or not.

RE: You know you're a foamer when...

Tyco was at one time, part of Mantua. The one powered truck wasn't cheap, as much as it was a Mantua design. Mantua changed that sometime after Tyco seperated from them. One pic I remember finding in a Model Railroader magazine was of a Rivarrosi Cab Forward, with the tender hooked on backward.

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?

Uh-h-h, I don't think CB&Q was absorbed by the Great Northern (to make Burlington Northern) until after the E's were long gone...I could be wrong.
Oh wait; didn't BN restore an A-B-A set for use on Executive Trains? And even if they did, I think it was painted in a much fancier livery.

RE: Whats wrong with this picture?

The burlington had e9's and the bn used all of them (and repainted them into cascade green) for metra service until the early and mid-1990's when the f40ph replaced them... the gn's e7's were scrapped in the mid 1960's and the NP never had any e-units.
