Well after a long fight with the UP paint shops, it looks like the SP 8013 has succumbed. It was admitted 8-29-03 to Jenks due to electrical problems and it is scheduled to come out in full UP dress as the 1813. It was nice that the B39-8 lasted that long. It'll be sad to see it go. Also while you can, get your pics/video of the SP 8192, as it is scheduled to hit the shop in the near future. My my my. Long Live the SP/SSW.

RE: So Long SP 8013

Howdy, This might seem calous, but we die-hard CNW peeps are down to 30 units un-BORG-ized. The word came down earlier this year, ALL CNW units to be patched/painted by Oct. 1. After that, ALL SP units to be patched/painted by 7/1/04. So at least you Espee folks still have a TON of your stuff left! Quit your cryin! Get your pics NOW while you can!Hec, we can't even get a CNW unit on the point anymore!! I see so many fricking SP units out here it kills me! Granted, I LIKE the SP, and always have...but why OUR units first? At least the CNW stuff was CLEAN!! (Most of it that was left anyhow )
Seriously, I grieve with you too! I HATE the UP for the most part. It was cool when it was WEST of Omaha!!!!! It sucks to see UP care about ONLY UP!!When we did equipment traces, we knew that if we seen a CNW unit on its way to N. Little Rock, it was NEVER going to return in its PROPER CNW paint! Also, as the CNW Sd40-2's need major work, they are being retired while the UP ones get fixed. Hec, 6930 was in a wreck last fall, and it had WAY less damage then the UP ones in the consist. IT was retired, and the others repaired!! SIGH......The CN is now doing that with the IC stuff too!! Freight cars are being repainted at a FAST rate! (As is the power)SO NEVER put off a trip to your favorite haunt!! The stuff won't be there tomorrow!!! UNFORTUNATELY!! LAter!

SO NEVER put off a trip to your favorite haunt!! The stuff won't be there tomorrow!!! UNFORTUNATELY!! That's good advice to our younger fans(and some of us older ones as well)I never focused on green & yellow bilevels,F's & E units,Crandall E's and so much other things C&NW,in the shallowness of youth such things were and would always be so why waste film on the common.
Learn the lesson kids, spend a little film on that common everyday loco, the hometown road for one day you'll be going through your photos and be glad you did.

Speaking of CNW's engines, just saw an east bound train with an unpatched CNW C44-9W. I did not get a pic, because it was too dark, but it's number was 860* (I wrote it down, but can not find which scrap of paper it is on in the truck. Sorry).Regards,

It is sad to see all the different railroad paint schemes morph into a just a few. The UP is really dulling the railroad kaleidoscope. This all reminds me of when I can consciously remember my first days of railfanning in the 70’s. A lot of the road power in my area had the very neglected and dirty Penn Central paint jobs. It was until the mid 80’s that I later found out that the color was supposed to be black, not BROWN ! So as a little child, I welcomed the Clownrail Blue with open arms. I still remember like it was yesterday the first time I saw a Conrail freight being pulled by the Blue GG1. Funny, that it was years later before I realized it was the famous 4800 “Old Rivets”. Also, I can recall the day my father and I were train spotting at the local station when a string of eight GG1’s went flying by. It was very exciting to see, and again, little did I know at the time, it was their final trip So Long SP 8013 – image 9 J. Hildenbrand------NALW------

RE: CNW

Hey try living in on the Sunset Route, I never see any pure Espee or Rio Grande anymore, I was driving out of school three weeks ago and a RG SD40 or something that wasn't patched and I went into shock, while my friend Danielle wondered what was going on.So Long SP 8013 – image 11
