LAST EDITED ON May-28-03 AT 01:25 AM (EDT)

>Never heard of it before now. What's it about? It's a day that CTC Board sets aside as a day for all train watchers in North America to go out and photograph trains. This year it's May 31. They encourage all who do to send in their photos to them and they'll select a few to publish in one of their upcoming issues. You can read more about it here:

I'll probably be out trackside that day. I won't be sending any pictures to CTC Board, though because I only have a print film camera.Jordan Lucero

I'll be out along the CSX Indy Line somewhere east of Avon, but still within the Indianapolis area. I'm going out scouting tomorrow for a picturesque location. I might just get atop one of the buildings along the right-of-way just east of Union Station in downtown Indy. Should be a great day. Weather forecast looks promising. Regards,

I'm staying home, I live in the railroad hub of the universe!
"I won't be sending any pictures to CTC Board, though because I only have a print film camera."I only have a 35mm, haven't gotten around to getting a digital yet, but I got a cheap flatboard scanner. If you don't have a scanner because you don't have a use for one that often, those photo machines at Walgreens and other places will scan your prints and save as jpegs onto a blank formatted 3 1/2" floppy for a few bucks.

You take East, I'll take West!If I can find an excuse to leave the house ("Um, Honey, I've got to run to the hardware store; be back in about 5 hours...") I'll be along the St Loius Line where it crosses the CE&D Sub (Haley Tower), or at Spring Hill. I was at Avon yesterday. A nice escape from HyperHell.Pop

Haley Tower, that sounds like fun too. After you had mentioned Terre Haute a couple of months ago I took a little drive there and got some shots of westbounds coming through. It's a nice spot for fanning, but what a shady part of town. -=) Especially across the tracks from the tower. But I did like the traffic. I raced a loaded autorack back to Avon taking shots every opportunity I could. It was slow, with the only power being a HELM C30-7 (glad to see and shoot that) and SD40-2. By the time we got east of Greencastle, in the country between Fillmore and Coatsville, the crew was eyeing me very suspiciously. So, I turned north on 75 and came back home. Was a great day and I thank you for the idea. With that being said, I may just give up on the east-side idea I had and go out to Terre Haute instead. I also want to get horn samples for a few projects I have going on and I think I'd have a much better time getting quality samples without having to worry about the background sound I'd get from the I65-I70 split on the east-side of Indianapolis. Shoot me an e-mail at dzollner@tds.net and maybe we could set something up. Regards,

RE: Day In North America - Location Check

Heh, I guess I have the perfect excuse to take some pics here in Kansas, I'll be out on the rails all day Saturday with the BNSF Employee Appreciation Special. Hopefully I'll get some great meet shots with all those new "hooded colorlights" the BNSF installed here recently. Austin S.

I'll probably be inside, since they're calling for rain and thunderstorms here (hey, what's new, Baltimore has had rain or overcast skies for the last month, except for yesterday, when that glowing orb thingy in the sky came out), but if I get a chance, I'm gonna try to catch CSX train Q398 (SD80AC 803 on the point, with SD40-2 4617 in the consist, still in mostly C&O paint, a GP38, CW40-8 and some other crap CSX power.)Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD
