Nice shots Phil. Just got my copy of TRS2004. I am sort of enjoying it. I do not like how they removed the feature from the "driver mode" where you could make consists and set them where you want. Now you have to go into the surveyor and place all of the items.

Hi John -Welcome to Trainz2004.Make sure you get Service Patch 4 (SP4) from the Auran site. You do not need any of the earlier patches - SP4 will bring you right up to date.I'd also suggest a First Class download ticket. You will find that you will be downloading a mass of assets from the Download Station. The other essential is TrainzObjectz - and the being able to use it! It's the Swiss Army Knife of Trainz.
If I can be of help, just contact me.Phil

WOW - they look terrific... Are they freeware ?I have not tried Trainz since the last release prior to TRS... Seemed it did not play nice with my ATI card....Pictures like this really tempt me... Hmmm... How is the realism on the Steam front ? I mean judging from the pictures - it has the looks but - how do the Physics stack up against MSTS ??? Frame rates any better than the last version ?Thanks,
Scott

RE: A pair of 0-6-0 switchers, on-shed

Hi Scott -Lots of questions there! Both locomotives are freeware, available from the Trainz Download Station. If you have dabbled with Trainz before you probably know that there are two driving modes - DCC with mimics model trains; and Cab Control for real life simulation. I had to do some fiddling with scripts and assets to make the steamers work in Cab Control, but it was well worth it. It just requires some knowledge of how to use TrainzObjectz, the Swiss Army Knife of Trainz.ATI card - I'm using a 9800XT and performance is impressive using OpenGL. With the same object densities, frame rates are better than MSTS, though this means that most Trainz route designers pack more detail in so overall frame rates are not necessarily any better. It's just that there is more there. In Austral Bay I'm trying to resisting this temptation. If you do a search for "philskene" in the Screenshot Forum you will find quite a few screen shots that I have posted. In most of those shots frame rates exceed 35 fps, with all sliders maxed and shadows on.Realism on the steam front (with the above provisos for the pair or 0-6-0 switchers) with Service Pack 4 (at least Auran does takes an active interest in its product) is no worse than MSTS, though perhaps that is not saying all that much! But overall I find Trainz more fun, particularly all the animations of loading and unloading products into the railroad cars.Phil

Hey Phil. I have everything you spoke of. I like to play TRS2004 when I want to do something else besides play MSTS. I play Train Dispatcher when I don't want to use either games. I'm having fun and I didn't even download anything from the downlaod station because the download speeds absolutely suck. I'm getting 3-4kbps on DSL! Anyway, I just wish that Auran would have been smart enough to leave the consist selection in the "driver" mode along with starting points as that was my favorite feature in UTC.

RE: A pair of 0-6-0 switchers, on-shed

John -Buy a FIRST CLASS TICKET !!! It's only a few bucks. With ADSL I get download speeds of up to 60kbps.The problem is sorting the wheat from the chaff - some content is extremely good, some not so.Also try:http://www.ustrainz.com/and try the 50ft box cars by Joram24. They are as good as anything else you will find anywhere, and that includes the MSTS work by Bill Cline and others.Phil

Man, CSX is on my bad list right now. I was planning on doing some CSX stuff for Christmas but I really don't want to have to fill out the liscense form and not have the c501 whatever form to send with it. I sent an application to UP 6 weeks ago and still have nothing to show for it.

Hey there. Im the so called "Manager/Founder" at USTrainz.I actually received a quicker response from CSX rather than UP in the beginning, and then finally UP got back to me. They are both great companies to deal with really. Kevin
