Gentlemen –Those of you who also dabble in Microsoft Train Simulator may have discovered my “Austral Bay” route. Austral Bay is based on Jim (Sniper) Ward’s “Port Ogden & Northern” with major alterations to the yard areas to accommodate industries, and terrain and scenery changed to give it an Australian flavor.Austral Bay is, in effect, two routes in one – a route for the player trains and a route for AI trains. Both come together in numerous places. In these locations the player trains should give way to the AI trains. Because of the nature of the route, in one area the player and AI trains may be moving in the same direction; in other areas in the reverse direction. It makes for some very interesting operations.I am part way through the process of recreating Austral Bay in Trainz. Several screen shots follow, showing the map (you can see that it is quite extensive) and the two fully textured areas that I have completed. The first series of screen shots is from the industrial area to the south of the town of Austral Bay. The second is the cementation plant at Exacto used to concentrate the rare earths from the mines in the area. All the track is in place together with associated interactive industries and railroad infrastructure, but much remains to be completed. All the little details that provide a lot of interest have to be added, terra forming needs to be done and the route needs to be fully textured.I’ll make progress as I can.Cheers,
Phil

RE: Austral Bay for Trainz

Hi Otto -Praise indeed! As with most Trainz equipment, it's all "mix and match".The bogies on the rolling stock, for example, can be changed by calling up a different kuid file.Likewise there is a good selection of track, though detailed switches have only just appeared. The screen shot below might interest you. From reports at the Auran forums it can be inserted into existing trackwork though it is a bit fiddly to place. Frame rates take only a minor hit. Compound slips and mixed gauge track is also available. I've not experimented with it yet (my interest is more in operations of the railroad), but will certainly download a route that contains this trackwork when one is finished, just to see what it is like.Just for interest, the cab shots are from the SP GP9. The cab is fully three dimensional - pan and zoom from the keyboard. All leavers and displays are fully functional.Cheers,
Phil

That looks really GREAT, Phil ! Greg Lane indicated that the next version of TRS will include switches of the quality you are showing in your picture.I shall have a go at your TRS-2004 version of the PON-9 and try to change the switches to make them look like this !When you have finished it where can I get your TRS-2004 PON-9 version from ?Take Care, O t t o.
