HiI thought I was having a problem installing Service Pack 3. A few seconds into the update I got a message to the effect that it found an incorrect file along with the impression it was aborting so I cancelled.I did this a couple times and even downloaded the pack a second time just in case. It was still apparently failing but this time, I left it alone and I noticed the progress eventually went from 3% to 4% along with a bit of disk activity. It eventually completed the update. Even though my 'puter isn't a snail, the update was quite slow. My suggestion if you think it might be failing is to be patient and give it lots of time to run. It's too bad they didn't mention that some errors are non-fatal and can be ignored. I guessing the cause was it was looking for the original version of TrainZ, not the SP2 version.GaryG

RE: SP3 Comment

Hi DaveIt did install ok, I was just attempting to point out the possibility of seeing the one message that led me to believe the install had failed. I was trying to say that if you see a message to not reach for the Cancel button too fast. Just let it run and it might continue to completion ok.GaryG

RE: SP3 Comment

Were you installing Sp3 over SP2 build 2145?
Where did you purchase TRS2004 from?
Did you run the patch on a fresh install of build 2145?
Did you move all your custom content to a backup folder while you ran the patch? All these things could be important when you try and install patches.

RE: SP3 Comment

HiQ Were you installing Sp3 over SP2 build 2145? A As far as I know it was installing over 2145 with the previous Service Packs installed. That's why I finally assumed it was looking for an original install without packs and that's why I assumed it gave the "mismatch" error message.
Q Where did you purchase TRS2004 from?A Locally at an Electronics Boutique, it is properly registered.
Q Did you run the patch on a fresh install of build 2145?A No, I saw no mention of such a requirement in the nonexistent accompanying ReadMe file. I did follow the instructions on the Web page.
Q Did you move all your custom content to a backup folder while you ran the patch?A No, there was no mention that I should (the system was backed up though).
Remark - All these things could be important when you try and install patches.Response - I agree these things can be very important but if they are so important, the accompanying documentation for a properly written update or patch would explain what to expect and messages would not imply the installation was a failure leading me to think I should cancel the install.GaryG

RE: SP3 Comment

Ok well take my word for it This is how I always install patches. Not only for TRAINZ but for all other games as well.1.Backup save games/downloaded content.
2.Uninstall game.
3.(optional, but good practice) REBOOT, Defrag.
4.Reinstall game
5.Load patches. Before you run the game/product.
6.Run the game/product. Make sure it loads ok.
7.Replace your saved/games and or downloaded content.8.Cross fingers I always have a sucessful and fast patching experience with no errors when I follow these rules.I hope that helps mate.

RE: SP3 Comment

The only incorrect file error that you can ignore is if you have a RailDriver controller. You may have something missing or not working as it should. I am one of the beta testers and know that if you get a missing or incorrect file that you must re-patch and or re-install and then patch, I have done this a lot!
