I tried to find this somewhere else following someone else's advice but so far no further on. Is there somewhere DEFINITE I can get this or tracks without sleepers and ballast and thus solve my frustration?

Do you mean tracks with just the metal rails? Try searching the download station for "rail only" and you should find some that will work.

MB rail only track, for 3 and standard guages can be found at: 35412:38051 in the dls
