Just wondering if I could get some information about Trainz. After various foiled attempts of erecting the CP Rail Belleville Sub using MSTS, I have begun to seriously consider purchasing TRS2004.The questions I have are listed below, and the answers that come will surely be appreciated.1. Is the signalling NORAC or CROR compliant?
2. Is the "Route Editor" easy to use.
3. When building a route, can you place signals as you go, or should they be placed after the trackwork is done (in other words, is TRS2004 as finicky as MSTS' RE)
4. Is there a lot of Canadian content in the downloads section.
5. Can the locomotives be notched up and down like MSTS, or are they still controlled by the dial (much like a home layout), as the demo showed when Trainz first came out.
6. How realistic are the brakes?I know that I could probably fork over the $49USD and find out, but I shelled out much more than that when MSTS came out, and I can honestly say that my displeasure with the RE alone is enough to curtail any freewilled spending. Thanks for any replies, I will appreciate them when they come.LC17

>Is the "Route Editor" easy to use.
Very Easy! You can create a detailed route in an hour or so!
>When building a route, can you place signals as you go, or should they be placed after the trackwork is done (in other words, is TRS2004 as finicky as MSTS' RE).
You can place signals as you go, the signals are not as smart as the ones in MSTS, but they are extremley easy to place and use, one click , and its ready!
>Is there a lot of Canadian content in the downloads section.
There is ALOT of evreything on the download section, hundreds of thousands of downloads..
>5. Can the locomotives be notched up and down like MSTS, or are they still controlled by the dial (much like a home layout), as the demo showed when Trainz first came out.
You have a choice here. You can have the simple dial with simple physics, or you can have a "Cab" Mode, which has movable notches and levers in the cab, realistic physics, realistic brakes (includes dynamic, train and engine) moveable doors and windows, and even an animated fireman on some of the steam engines!
>6.How realistic are the brakes? see above. There is a whole Industry section, in which you can see coal, woodchips, boxes, chemicals, bauxite, grain, even people! being loaded onto cars, and industrys produce and demand diffrent materials. In my opinion, the route editor itself is worth the 50 bucks!

RE: Some information please

Hey
1: The signalling is fairly basic but easy to install into the route. But if you learn the "trainz script" you can program signalling to do what you want.
2:REALLY REALLY easy to use and learn. The learning curve is not very steep and can be rounded fairly quickly.
3: You can install signals at anytime. You can do it at the end, right away, anytime you want.
4: There is quite abit. But quality isn't that great on some, but on others it is nice.
5: Yes, you have the option of the dial or realistic controls.
you can notch, use DB's, get really short horn blasts etc.
6: Pretty realistic, as is MSTS default isn't the most realistic, but if you modify files, I believe it can be made pretty realistic.I was reluctant to fork 70 cdn for trainz... And I only recently started enjoying it. Was different then MSTS, but also I am really enjoying it.

RE: Some information please

Thank you for your replies, I am intent on making the purchase.Since I do not have a credit card (thank goodness), what store stocks this on their shelves? I am sure that the Radio Shack in my hometown doesn't have it, maybe Future Shop or an Electronics Boutique maybe. Can't hardly wait, been dreaming of modelling my hometown of Trenton, Ontario, just a few miles from the centre of the CP Rail Belleville Sub, and would include (modelled to the best of my memory) the old CN line that ran through Trenton as well.Almost drooling,

Hello.LooseCannon ... you've hit the nail on the head.I too recently switched from MSTS to TRS2004, albiet not intentionally. I became so frustrated with the front coupler issue one day I loaded up TRS while I cooled off a bit. I haven't used MSTS since.I have all versions of Trainz but hadn't really touched them because my experience with the first one didn't leave me impressed. The original Trainz was extremely toy-like as compared to MSTS. However, let me say the more I use TRS 2004 the more impressed I am with it. I am actually seriously considering uninstalling MSTS now. Auran, you have come a long way folks! Also, in response to your original post LooseCannon, there is a severe shortage of prototypical Canadian equipment in the TRS world. However, I was modeling Canadian equipment for MSTS and have every intention of moving all that work over to TRS now instead. Unfortunately I worked with TSM and am now in the process of learning/switching to Gmax so it may be a little bit before I can have anything ready. But it will come. (it'd also be easier to get stuff done if I could get out of Surveyor, but it's just so darn easy ... and fun ... to use.)EDIT: Typing too fast and my proofreading sucks.

RE: Some information please

Ray,Haven't seen you around for awhile. Good to hear from you again. I made the big dash this morning to London in quest of the elusive TRS2004, and hit Future Shop, Toys R Us, Electronics Boutique, Best Buy, Radio Shack, returning home with a heavy heart and no TRS 2004. The kid behind the counter at EB states - it's been discontinued, you won't find it anywhere. Maybe in London. If anyone out there has seen an actual TRS 2004 software package in any store, almost anywhere in Ontario, lemme know, please. I would greatly appreciate it, as now, I am almost dying to get into it. (You know, the more you want something, the harder it is to get?)Thanks in advance, and looking forward to seeing that Canadian content soon, Ray.

RE: Some information please

I remember seeing something about Hobby Shops in Canada, so maybe you could call up a Hobby shop that carries model trains.

RE: Some information please

It comes with a full TGV set, as well as several other DMUs/EMUs. Most of the included routes are fictional, but there are many to download. You can most deinitely run passenger service, with opening doors and visibly loading/unloading passengers.

RE: Some information please

Hi LC.If you go to any of the train shows in Toronto there are a bunch of guys Demoing it off for Auran. The guys live in the GTA and I can pass on one of their email address's. One lives in Oakville and I bought my version of TRS2004 from him. If you drove to London, Oakville is alot closer You could probably email the guy and pick it up from his house.

RE: Some information please

Why not order from Auran? I have purchased all version from them. If i'm not mistaken you get a free ticket to the download station. Kinda like this site. You get faster access time if you have the ticket. So I recommend ordering direct.Kin

RE: Some information please

Rob,Sorry for the late reply, a baby being born usually throws a HUGE wrench into whatever you are working on. No complaints, as it is a boy, a future railfanner and the such. I'll take the offer for that e-mail address, as I work in the GTA every day, and Oakville, although further from me than London, proves closer by the time I getr to work. I trust that this is a full version of TRS2004 I am asking about? Thanks again to everyone for your replies, I have become so frustrated with MSTS that it is shelved for a whilw, and I really need to get cracking on something soon before I go crazy.LC17

RE: Some information please

Hello again LC. I too became fed up with the difficulties of MSTS train sim and decided to try Trainz 2004. I was lucky and a copy came in at EBGames in portage place in Peterborough the same day.

I've had it about a week and have a bit over 5 miles of track completed with surveyor (the route editor), including industries. I'm impressed with the ease of creating a route and you can jump back & forth from surveyor to driver mode to test things out. As for locos i've downloaded CPRail and SD40-2's and GP38's as well as CN locos and a few tankers. Auran's plans for the future also sound very interesting, which can be found on the web site in forums I think. So I'm happy about spending the $57.00 or so and think you will enjoy having Trainz 2004.

Best Regards, brewster

How are the sounds in Trainz? I might pick up a copy at CompUSA for $20 US. LC, you should go to CompUSA online and see if you can get it there as well.Cheers,
