That would be because Aurans download station ( http://www.auran.com/trainz/downloadst.htm ) At the time of this posting.. Has 14523 objects to download Plus, By uploading to Aurans site, It helps that little bit to 'stick it up' pirates of the game as they need a serial number to access the Download Station.. 1 number for 1 person. No CD keys get you access to the Download Station Catchya'

RE: AURAN TRAINS Download Page?

There is as Axe said one in the File Library, but I do wish more Trainz content creators would upload to the one here. I refused to go into the Auran DLS just to try and find content for no special purpose. It is ill concieved and ill run for all practical purposes and using the search engine to find something other than a KUID number search is next to impossible. That of course isn't all Auran's fault because of the way many content creators title their content. By the same token Auran should get a handle on content titles and refuse those that do not meet some sort of standard that makes sense. Also an image and decent description should be required for each upload and get away from this habit of using one image for several different uploads. I would like to see exactly what I am going to download rather than guess at what is in the file with one image for a dozen or more different items. All in all the download system contained within this site is ideal for ease of use and information for each item listed. The only drawback is the long download times associated with my dial-up connection, but I can watch TV, play frisbee with my pet wolf or any number of things while downloading.Actually all of this is a moot point considering I uninstalled UTC and used the CD's as frisbee's with my pet wolf until he finally chewed them up. I still have MSTS and will keep it for its better graphics and stability as well as the File Library here with a much better array of content, Steam and specialized rolling stock in particular. Oh yeah, Routes are much better also because you don't have to download each tree, rock or whatever to complete the route before setting your rolling stock on the tracks and driving off into the sunset. Yes I agree Surveyor is 110% easier to use than MSTS Editor to create a Layout/Route, but even that has shortcomings and needs some minor changes to be fully adequate. The major one is having to download and install the content to make it operational when created by a third party creator.Enough Trainz bashing for now so I will move this 25 pound wolf head off my lap and let him take me for a walk before dinner. RE: AURAN TRAINS Download Page?

Hi ya there Hoosier, I have also replied to your thread over at Aurans Forums in releation to this problem you have downloading, so I won't rehash it here. I see it this way the beauty of Trainz is you only have to download an item once, and once it is installed you never have to download it again, unless the creator updates it. The only problem is that ( As BOW points out ) there are 10,000+ downloadable items on the Download Station, and everybody use different content for the routes they create, which is either a curse or a blessing. It all comes down to choice. There is a program out there that will swap objects in layouts with other kuids, so therefore you could download a route and swap most of the 3rd party content into the standard content that comes with Trainz. Save the route, and prestow it should function well. Besides how many times do you want to download those large ( 60 - 80 - 100 meg ) MSTS routes ?RegardsAXE

To be honest with ya... I use both Trainz and MSTS. I use trainz for route building and use MSTS for riding. Of course, if all those quirks have been fixed in the MSTS route editor when the next version comes out, I will go back.Trainz is alot more user friendly on the route editing side. And the graphics are not bad at all. Maybe not as "real" looking as MSTS, but when you are having fun with a product like Trainz, you tend to overlook stuff like that. You don't pay attention to how much more real a tree looks on the side of a track.Hopefully MSTS makes the route editor alot easier. I know alot of people will say "Well... you should try learning how to use it" To be honest, I did. But its not as user friendly as Trainz. And thats what it boils down to... "USER FRIENDLYNESS"If it didn't, we would all be using Linux, and not Windows. (Linux being an OS that requires a higher learning curve.)VinceAURAN TRAINS Download Page? – image 9

RE: AURAN TRAINS Download Page?

Vince:Can a Trainz route be carried over into MSTS? What needs to be done to make that happen? I took one look at the route editor in MSTS and said this is beyond me. However, I would like to try and find something in Trainz that would assist with a route for MSTS. Does UTC have a route editor that can do that? Some of the recent routes to come out on MSTS have been simply great. I for one like the prototypical routes that are more on MSTS than the fictional ones. Besides that, a good prototype with a lot of train activity is really neat along with good scenery. If Trainz can do a MSTS route then I would like to order the UTC right away.Bob Edwards

RE: AURAN TRAINS Download Page?

Hi Axe,Well I did create quite a stir over in the Trainz forum and it managed to get out of hand because of a lot of speculation. Actually I love to jerk peoples chains and see what kind of respone I get then sit back and laugh at the total chaos it creates. What really cracked me up was the fact I was jumped all over for using an absolutely authorized name in the General Forum where anybody, Trainz owners or not are allowed to post. The Trainz forum stresses the willingness to help, but as you noticed that isn't always the case if you aren't registered or at least don't appear to be. Looking at it like that I may haved proven another point, it ain't all as is advertized. It took awhile, but I did finally manage to get an answer to my question about zip files and where/how to open them in Trainz folders. I will also use ASM (latest 1.5 version) and have downloaded Peter's new CDP utility, but haven't yet tried it out. I have a little over 1500 files from the DLS so now maybe I can sort them out so they make sort of sense. And yes all my dealings with Trainz and MSTS are strictly leagal and above board. Contrary to popular belief I do not frequent Warez sites because frankly they scare the hell out of me. There are enough idiots out there trying to screw up computers without my doing it to myself by using illegal or questionable content. What was really funny was the fact I praised Auran and Trainz for the outstanding program and Auran staffers for getting involved, but most everybody chose to overlook that and my Zip File question and accuse me of using an illegal copy of Trainz. How is it possible to use an illegal copy of Trainz in the first place? It has to be registered to use the DLS and post in other areas of the forum excluding the general forum along with other Auran content. I think most of the people that posted in the thread need to wake up and smell the toast burning. Oh well, as I said in the Trainz forum this to me is a dead issue, but it was fun and good for a few laughs while it lasted.

RE: AURAN TRAINS Download Page?

Well I am glad you got it sorted out Asset Manager is a great program, and I use it all the time. Apparently TRS2004 should have something simular as part of the program. ( it will be able to search off the DLS ) I think We are a fiesty bunch over at the Auran forums, and generally we are quite friendly, but jumping to conclusions seem to be a more frequent thing these days. It is funny. Of all the games I have ever owned, Trainz is the first program I have ever registered. RegardsAXE

RE: AURAN TRAINS Download Page?

To be honest, Trainz was the thiurd game I ever bought of my 20 I had at the time. I was getting to be known as Sir Edward Teach on some forums.
for the less knowledable, a famous 18th century pirate who sailed the Atlantic

Only because it's necessary to do so in order to access other utilities. If you could enter the forums and the Download Station in an anonymous manner then you would not have any reason to register.Correct? Bruce.

Actually no Bruce, I was a member of the Trainz community before I had Trainz the product. Even before it was released comercially, and at that time we were able to post and read all that was available. It was only after a few more forums were created and Trainz was released that registering became necessary. I was even a successful lurker for a few weeks prior to my joining. It was only after I bought the product that I entered my serial number, but even then I think users could still download without a serial number. The Download Station wasn't even created when trainz was released. - I created and uploaded a layout out within 2 weeks of getting Trainz, and I had to email this ZIP file to Auran. If I wanted to be annomyonus I could just hang out at Trainz_lvr or here at Train.sim.com, but I choise to register my copy of Trainz and be a continued supporter of this fine product. If truth be told I would probably have registered other games such as Doom, if they had an online community such as Trainz. Actually Idsoftware had a vast online community, just nowhere to congragate as I do with Auran and Trainz.RegardsAXE
