LAST EDITED ON Jul-12-03 AT 02:23 AM (EDT)

I have seen routes, beautiful routes, in Trainz. Ii have had Microsoft Train Simulator for over quite some time and building a route is just too difficult. So I got thinking. Is Trainz a worthy product. Is it easy to construct routes, tunnels, gradients and all the other things that make a route, well a route. Is it a realistic product that can leave you with a satisfying feeling. Here is the questions I need answering and I was wondering you could answer them for me. Please answer them with a 1-10. 1=bad. 10=great.
1. Is it easy to lay track. Single, and double, and triple track?
2. Is it easy to make realistic mountains?
3. Is it easy to make tunnels, curved or straight?
4. Is it easy to make a grade with track on a curve or straightaway?
5. Is it easy to make a straight or curved trestle?
6. Is it easy to place objects and rotate them?
7. Is it easy to create a realistic route overall?
Total out of 70. 70 is the best score. Thank You Very Much. This will decide on my purchase of Trainz or Trainz 2004. Again, thank you!

One thing Trainz doesn't have is the tracks like MSTS. In Trainz they are all dynamic and you lay them as if you were to draw the tracks with pencil.
As tunnels and bridges, unlike in MSTS, they are just different type if tracks.
You just lay the track as normal track and the bridge/tunnels gets lay ed.

I would add that laying down a trestle is exactly as easy as the trackage itself. It's just like using a pencil and paper to draw out your route. It DOES take a little dedication-to-purpose as does any skill. If you put in time you'll take out more facility at route design. But having used both products I can fairly say that there is NO comparison. Yes, M$T$ does have some strengths but so does Trainz and my money is on Trainz for the forseeable future. At this point I'm gonna take some awful convincing to put money into MSTS. YMMV

>1. Is it easy to lay track. Single, and double, and triple
>track? A: 10>2. Is it easy to make realistic mountains? A: 6 to 7 (If you use DEM or similiar, they can be very realistic)

>3. Is it easy to make tunnels, curved or straight? A: 10>4. Is it easy to make a grade with track on a curve or
>straightaway? A: 9 (Switches on grades on a bend can be tricky to line up but it still works, just doesnt look 'Neat')>5. Is it easy to make a straight or curved trestle? A: 9 (Can be done but takes a little practice, especially dual track)>6. Is it easy to place objects and rotate them? A: 10 (same as MSTS but you cant swivell the object on it vertical axis, just spin it 360 degree's)>7. Is it easy to create a realistic route overall? A:10 (How realistic do you want it ? The limits are upto you )>Total out of 70. 70 is the best score. Total : 65 \ 70 Catchya

RE: Your Opinion

If you will purchase Trainz, make sure you get UTC or in around October Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004. Checkout and or download the AVI files over at Aurans site. They show you a great amount of info on how the program works. Download the UTC demo there is a link to it in another thread in this forum.Best of luck.

RE: Your Opinion

ah, but Strategy First really bombed with Rails across america. I have that game and I must say it is probably one of the worst concieved ideas I've ever seen. It's not so much that Rails is a bad game, but it's too much like Railroad Tycoon for my own likes.
