Hi guys, I'd like to draw your attention to the best Trainz proto-like route I've had the pleasure to use. If you have UTC you might like to try Rosworth Vale route, recently put on Auran's download station.Details of the route are at www.valerail.co.uk and there's a link to the download from there. Here's just a little glimpse of the masterpiece created by Paul Franklin aka Chilean Llama:The best Trainz route ever! – image 1

RE: The best Trainz route ever!

LAST EDITED ON May-31-03 AT 01:16 PM (EDT)

I like the look of this route. I went to the Auran D/L station to get it. I couldn't believe the speed. 4.6Kb/s - worse than my modem days. Everywhere else I download stuff, I get speeds around 20-60Kb/s on my Cable link. I suspect the Auran site must be artificially throttled to persuade people to get this First Class Ticket malarkey!!!
Rest assured, I shan't be bothering there again...
In fact, I probably won't be bothering with Trainz again. If I need new content from Auran every time I D/L a route, I shall be old(er) and grey(er) before I get anything at this rate.Cheers, 7&Y

RE: The best Trainz route ever!

>I suspect the Auran site must be artificially throttled to persuade people to get this First Class Ticket malarkey!!!No,it is throttled to allow as many people as possible to access the free server and to provide a superior service at a nominal cost for those prepared to pay around USD$2/month for those privileges. Also, content creators are free to place content on their own sites as many of them do, but many of them don't have the bandwidth to do so. If we took down the free server, you would have less content to download so I can't figure out how that would benefit you? Finally, the vast majority of FCT members are very happy with the service, and more than happy to pay for it in order to help cover the costs associated.Tony

RE: The best Trainz route ever!

Ahh - so it is throttled! Unfortunately, for me, too much...
If it takes me over an hour to D/L a route, even if it is just once in a while, I won't bother. Obviously, Tony, there is a commercial imperative here, but I see what is, IMHO, over zealous use of that throttle it will put me off even bothering to expand my Trainz. That being the case, my use of it will probably fall by the wayside. Shame really Cheers, 7&Y

RE: The best Trainz route ever!

Hour to download? Well I work at $10/h and I'm 19 years old.
If you are adult you would usually work for over $15/h.
So waiting one hour to download and not spending 0.027 cents to download that in 2,3 minutes,
I think that is a big waste of time. Time is money.Just my "personal" thoughts.

I can think of a worse scenario, sites that limit the amount of users that can download. At least with auran I can throw the downloads into a download manager and guess what, I had 7 seven downloads going at once at 4k each. Much better than getting an error saying that all nodes are busy.Loosen up, not the end of the world Dave

RE: The best Trainz route ever!

Think about this. What really constitutes the "best" route? I see it as something that holds an interest in individual tastes. Looking at it that way every route available could be the "best" route depending on your viewpoint. I am pretty much attuned to narrow gauge routes and activities so I prefer the Black Canyon or TPR Prospector Line which actually contains both NG and Standard. Black Canyon even comes in both flavors with seperate downloads. Now then there are many I am sure that think those two routes are not interesting from their point of view so it comes down to personal preference as to what is the "best" route IMHO.I am continually downloading different routes just to see what they look like and if I don't like what I see I will delete it and go on to another. Even if I feel it is an interesting route but turns out to be a resource hog I will dump it because I am not going to keep upgrading my box just to have a route because of appearance.
