Well I made the jump from MSTS and found 1.3. I know everyone is saying to get UTC , but at $5 i couldn't resist 1.3. So my question is how much of a difference between these 2 versions?? Can the same engines/railcars and layouts work in both? Also is 1.3 the same version as what comes with UTC? Thanks for your help!
Its the new standard. It has some more stuff in it, intergrated downloads. "Yard master" is next suposidly. Im considering buying UTC BUT dont wanna spend too much more on a game i didn't like too much. Especially when KHP2, Surfliner and a CN route for MSTS is coming
I hate to repeat an old saying, but...if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.If you paid only $5 for Trainz SP3, it is probably already registered. Auran registers copies of Trainz once...to the original owner. If this is the case, you will not be able to use Download Station. You'll be limited to the routes and rolling stock that came with the sim. You can go to third party sites to download content, but this has its caveats also. All of our content requires some DS components.Steamwhistle Testing and Support Group Leader TrainzProRoutes
I got it brand new in the box and it registered just fine!! No problem using download station, etc... Can't wait to try your stuff, Steamwhistle.>I hate to repeat an old saying, but...if a deal sounds too >good to be true, it probably isn't. > >If you paid only $5 for Trainz SP3, it is probably already >registered. Tempest,You're all set. Welcome to the Trainz community. The $5 price seemed unreal. Some Trainzers dumped their copies of SP3 on unsuspecting individuals after they got UTC and Auran took a hard line on it. I guess the retailer thought it would never move off the shelves. His loss is your gain.I think you'll really enjoy our routes and scenarios, but I must warn you that the Tehachapi Route was written in UTC and has problems running in SP3, due to built-in textures only available in UTC. All of our other routes and scenarios are fully SP3 compliant. Be sure to download our Asset Seeker Manager (ASM) utility. It will make finding, downloading and installing missing assets a breeze.Happy Trainzing,Steamwhistle
If it has a Kuid number then it should work. However a lot of new content for Trainz includes the new features of Trainz. For Exsample the multiple Camera angles in the cab mode. Or the many other new features UTC includes. While the SP3 Version is a vast improvement over the orginal Trainz product UTC is again a giant leap from that. Check out the Trainz site for a list of improvements. This is why people would have recommended UTC for you. However for $5 you really can't go wrong. Enjoy what you have. My advice is wait now for Yardmaster. RegardsAXE
Wait... Will Yardmaster be an addition to UTC? Or a whole new thing like UTC? Because if its a whole new thing i'll wait for it. if not i'll buy UTC and upgrade sometime. thanks!
YardMaster (now called Trainz railroad simulator 2004) will be a stand-alone product. So no worries there, and it will be out within the year so you dont have to wait long. I know i will be purchasing it along with MSTS 2. Also note i have had every release of Trainz to date.
