Have just seen Trainz in my local store for the first time.
Came back and looked at some screenshots on the web. It looks fantastic !
Does it run as fast as MSTS?
Is it as good as MSTS?
Is it better !!!!????
Any comments from people who have used both would be welcome.
They must have their own strengths and weaknesses.
What are they please ?

RE: In the Shops !`

Better or worse is personal opinion.
In my opinion Trainz is who knows how many times better.
3D Cab, Really Easy route editor (called surveyor), many many default rolling stock,
easy to repaint program Paintshed(currently sold seperately for $15 US), high quality cutom addons,
ease of installing addons (Open File, Click Extract - Done), working turntable,
THE BEST SUPPORT AND COMMUNITCATION BETWEEN the company and customer I've seen in my whole life,
and so on and on and on and on
One thing I will have to say is wait untill november. Where do you live? UK?
In November "Ultimate Trainz collection" - comonly UTC will be coming out for about US $50.
It will include Paitnshed, newer version of Trainz (1.5 - current is 1.3), over 130 rolling scotcks,
over 1000 scenerys, activites, new improved interface, add-on manager and so on.
This week Auran will be releaseing all the details for UTC, so stay tuned at thier website,
or subscribe for the news to be deliverd to your email inbox: www.virtualtrainz.com
The only thing "I" could think that it's better in MSTS is that
it is possible to do much more complicated computer Cab system than in Trainz.
The other thing is that at this point MSTS has more addons becasuse;
1. Was released in world at almost same time.
2. Was released by MS. (and its own distrubitor.)
3. Was sold in most stores.
4. Was 1st and long waited high visual quality Train Game.
5. Was released 6 months before MSTS.Well, in one word, YOU WILL NEVER REGRET that you got Trainz, BUT your family, or gf, or wife, etc
might regtret that you got it because they will rarely see you once you run Trainz.
Oh, and one more thing. YOu dont need 20GB HD for Trainz. The defualt install is about 450MB.
Now I have well over 1000 items and 30 layouts installed and its only about 1GB for addons.
I hope I was able to give you some idea.
Im sure someone will post here and give you more precise list of what is done better in Trainz and whats done better in MSTS.
Georgi

Why does a war have to start only by comparing two different products and stating own opinion?

RE: In the Shops !`

Thank you Georgi that's extremely helpful.
I have seen the stuff about the upcoming Ultimate Trainz release.
Yes I am in UK (how did you know that!).
In conclusion, since my experience with MSTS shows that I AM interested in train sims, it makes sense to get both.
In much the same way that I own FS2002 AND Falcon4.
Looks like another £40 goes soon then.Money talks,
I can't deny
it spoke to me once,
and said
Bye Bye.......

I knew you were in UK because Ariel Tirbue (dont care about thier spelling) messed up BIG time.
Trainz was released in USA in February 13th, and the absolutely same version was finally released in UK in September.
Arxiel Triobue said MArch, June, July, etc, etc, and finally released it in September.
That's why when I read that you found it in store, I thought you must be in UK and just seen it for the 1st time.
I hate Arxiel Tribure.... one of biggest suckers.
I mean, it took them 10 months to release a single game!
GeorgiEdit: And you paid 40 UK money (pounds?) for this game, while its $20 in USA now...
Thats why it so stupid..10 months to release a game,
and now they are not even releaseiing the service pack because they have to transelate English to UK English,
and that is causing them problem.
It made me laugh, how can they be so stupid? I wish Auran had the power to distribute the game by themself.

If you go to www.mysimon.com and search for Trainz, it will show you which online retailers sell the program. If I remember correctly, I bought my from EBgames or Comp USA, can't remember for about $39.99 US.

RE: In the Shops !`

The idea that somebody had to pay 40 pounds UK for Trainz, or for that matter 40 pounds for MSTS, when it is available in the US for $20 is of some concern to me, too. I wonder if anyone could identify a US business willing to ship software to overseas addresses. This might be a service to those unfortunates who are stuck with UK, Australian, Continental or whatever sources. Some matters to be considered before it could be started;
1. Here in the US, I assume that the software is intended to be run under the US-English language version of Windows. I don't know what difficulties might be encountered if someone were to attempt to run such a program under, for example, a German or French language version. Is there a separate version of windows with UK-English language? What about the Aussies, Kiwis, South Africa? I do know that early versions of the BVE simulator were designed for Japanese-language Windows environment, and wouldn't run with English-language Windows.
2. There might be some difficulties with currency conversions. Presumably, a business could accept credit cards, but someone with no credit card will have to arrange an international money order.
3. I don't know how the Customs duties might be handled, either when leaving the US or entering another country. I've shipped several items to family in Canada, and managed to keep the value below the minimums (i.e. less than $100), but I don't know if other countries observe similar rules.Just some ideas. I have a friend who runs a US hobby shop and stocks both Trainz and MSTS. He does some mail-order business, and has shipped outside the US on a few occasions, so I'll ask him about it the next time I visit the shop.
