Hello All,
Wanted to show some screenshots of my layout which is still under construction. It's about 27 baseboards now, and it's about 25% done.I'm calling it the Erie Montauk Lines. Basically it's part fictious and part prototypical. For instance, the major city at one end of the line is a coastal city called Montauk, the Erie never went there nor did they have any trackage that ran on a Seaside Cliff. But as you go further down the line, you pass farms, an abandoned tunnel next to the active one. And then towns such as Greenwood Lake and Port Jervis. As well as some trackage that will remind you of the Southern Tier Line next to the Delaware River. Also a gorge area that is similar to the Erie's Moodna Viaduct.I couldn't put all the screens here due to the size of them. But click the link at the bottom and it will bring you to my yahoo webpage with all the picsI would like to send this layout to one or two people to get feedback, just not sure where to upload it to. Yahoo mail unfortunately has a size limitation when uploading files.Enjoy,

RE: My New Layout - Screens

Hi. What a nice looking layout. I'm already exited.
You can sign up to geocities and upload files there. If that fails, when we meet online next time,
you can send it to me () and I can upload it to Geocities Japan which I am sure that allows big size uploads.Georgi

RE: My New Layout - Screens

Hi Georgi,I have a geocities website. I know how to upload the file, but I'm not sure what to do then.I may just put it on the yahoo briefcase. Either way it will be available tonight. There is still alot to be done, even to the sections that are mostly done. The city still needs a lot of work and I still have about 20 to 30 baseboards to add. But if I can get a preliminary idea of what needs improvement and what else I can add from users that would be great.DaveLeaving Greenwood Lake heading for the Erie Valley Viaduct

RE: My New Layout - Screens

Hi. After you upload the file (as one ZIPed file), looks for it on your list of files, right click on it, select properties,
and you will see where is says "Adress (URL)". Highlight that copy the adress with Ctrl+C then paste is somewhere and thats its adress.
Then, if you post (paste) that adress here, I can directy click on it and download it Georgi

Hey Whleighton,Glad you like it so far. I have to upload the next version of it.I've done a lot so far.I've taken sections of all of the great Northeast Lines such as the Lackawanna Cutoff, Erie Southern Tier, New York, Ontario & Western, New York, Susquehanna & Western and more and combined them into one long route. Thanks,

RE: My New Layout - Screens

Hey whleighton,What bridge are you talking about? I'm just curious because there are some custom content bridges I did put in and I'm wondering if it is one you don't have.Could you give me the location? Also was there water in the gully because I am using a custom water texture?

RE: My New Layout - Screens

LAST EDITED ON Jul-30-02 AT 12:52 PM (EDT)

Hey Dave,The missing bridge is by the Greenwood Mining spur. The single track has a trestle, but the double tracks look like a roller coaster. There is grass in the gully, no water. I am running SP3 and I see the missing custom content on startup. I have the Pennsylvania Pratt truss span, but the KUID's don't match (probably as a result of SP3.) I don't have the Pratt truss span. I was unable to find the missing content on the Trainz site (also probably due to SP3.)Hope this information helps.

RE: My New Layout - Screens

Hi whleighton,Hmm, this is strange. I downloaded those bridges from http://austin316hockey.cjb.net/trainz/The KUID's were updated before SP3 came out though. But I'm not sure if his bridges were included in SP3 or not.I'll be uploading a more updated version of my layout this week.I would definitely recommend visiting the above website, he has some of the greatest add-ons for Trainz and they're all SP3 compliant. As for the water texture, I downloaded it from Trainz.luvr.net as the environment pack add-on.Dave

RE: My New Layout - Screens

Hi Dave,I have all the content from Jon's site. I installed every bridge from his site and the bridge in question is there now. Apparently, the file descriptions do not match the folder names as they appear after installation. Basically, I deleted all of my custom content and did a "clean' install of Trainz to get rid the nasty screen that kept on popping up when I started the program up. I am now adding back items, one at a time, and seeing what works, and what doesn't...a very time consuming project. Also, I save EVERYTHING I ever downloaded off the internet on CD's. (Man, do I have a lot of blank Zip Disks.) You never know when something is going to disappear (like the now infamous Columbus Locomotive Works stuff for MSTS.)At this point, I am still looking for some of the custom content and I cannot seem to find it on the Auran site or the TrainzLuvr site. To make matters worse, SP3 does not have a scrollable screen for missing content. Sooo...until I find the top items, I won't be able to see what else I need. At least, I believe I have all the trackwork and I won't be putting engines on the ground anymore.Oh! I almost forgot. You seem to be using an older version of the Parking Lot Half Spline. This gave me a little problem. There is a updated version on the Auran site.I'll keep you abreast of my progress. Thanks,Bill aka steamwhistlePS Can't wait to see what's coming

Hi Dave,I have searched through all my downloads, and checked all available Trainz content sites and I am unable to find the following custom content:<KUID:42:34002> - road sidewalk3

<KUID:56411:34000> - LighthouseFreedom
<KUID:32871:300023> - bus school
<KUID:9:23004> - platform woodenThis may be due to the problem I stated previously. The custom content authors often name the CD files which differ from the names in the Custom folder. I believe that Auran is taking steps with SP3 to standardized KUIDs for the future.

RE: My New Layout - Screens

Hello All, I have uploaded the newest version of my route. Montauk is mostly done and about 20 or so more baseboards have been added. Just right click the below link and download. Unzip the file to your Auran/Trainz/World/Custom/Maps directory. It should create a file folder on it's own. Below is the readme which gives a description of what is done so far. Feedback is very much appreciated. Hopefully within in the next month or two the route will be completely done. Copy and paste this link into your browser address bar then download:
http://www.geocities.com/nyow2000/Erie_Montauk_Lines.zipThank you for downloading the Montauk Lines Route/Layout. This document will serve as a verbal map of the route and talk about some of the highlights of both the fantasy and prototypical portions of the map. The Route/Layout has some sections that are modeled after real routes here in the Northern New Jersey/New York State area. North End of Route –
Montauk Terminal
Montauk is a fictional city, it was actually started from a previous map and I merged it with the new one. There are some custom content buildings in the section. Some examples are: The Evil Tower and Red Carpet Suites Hotel and the Maple Leaf Gardens are all available at http://trainz.luvr.net . Leaving Montauk you will pass through a tunnel, which takes you under the Montauk ridge and brings you to the suburbs on the shoreline. Once you exit the tunnel you will curve past the suburbs heading toward Clare’s Point. Claire’s Point
Once you pass over the twin bridges over the rocky shoals you will be on Claire’s Point a two-mile long outcropping on the ocean, which the route runs on. If you have the custom content you will see 3 ships on the sea, as well as the Freedom Lighthouse right at the tip of the point. Look for the two lovers overlooking the ocean at the point.
Once you past the lighthouse you will be heading for Warwick Farm. Warwick Farm
If you look to your left you will see the Warwick farm, known for its livestock raising. Cows, Horses, and Sheep should all be visible. Just ahead is a double track tunnel. The Erie Montauk Lines built this tunnel about 30 years ago, when the old tunnel collapsed. Look to the right and you’ll see the portal to the abandoned tunnel. Greenwood Lake
Exiting the Warwick Tunnel; behind you’ll see the other end of the abandoned tunnel. Also, there will be a spur heading off to the right on it’s own bridge. This line takes you to Greenwood Mining Spur. The bridges here are Custom Content so if you don’t have them prepare to go into the lake. About a mile after the bridges is the town of Greenwood Lake, NY. Modeled after the Erie Railroad’s Greenwood Lake Branch, you may recognize some aspects of this area.
Erie Valley & Monksville Dam
After leaving Greenwood Lake, to your left will be the Monksville Dam and bridge, if you have this custom content it should show up. Then you will pass over the Erie Valley, a one-track bridge, watch your speed on this section. A sample of the Southern Tier
After the bridge you will pass through a two-track tunnel and then come out into a valley next to a river. This section mimics the Erie Railroad’s Southern Tier between Port Jervis and Binghamton, NY. Look for the two railfans at the other side of the river watching your train. Watch your speed here or you’ll go into the Delaware River.
Then through another tunnel, and you’ll be in Port Jervis. Port Jervis, NY
After the second tunnel you will enter Port Jervis, NY, once a major railroad hub for the Erie Railroad and NYO&W Railroad. For those of you who have been there, hopefully it looks familiar. The Lackawanna Cutoff
After Port Jervis we switch to a section that is prototypical of the Lackawanna Railroad’s New Jersey Cutoff. The track speed here is 70mph until about a mile after Cheshire.
You’ll be following a river, which will also remind you of the New York Centrals route through Syracuse, Utica, and Albany. Cheshire is a fictional town, (I have an obsession for the Cheshire Cat). This is a small stop, the town is located over the river. Only local passenger trains stop here at night. Quarryville
About 2 miles after Cheshire you will round a curve. There is no town here but there once was. Look closely and you’ll see the abandoned track from when there were two bridges here. To your right is a deep quarry, this was mined years ago to help build the railroad and surrounding area. You will cross a bridge (Custom Content) and then head back to two-track territory. Binghamton, NY
After the Quarryville Bridge you will start entering the Binghamton suburbs. Binghamton is a small city in Upstate New York, which played host to many railroads. You’ll see a linear park to your left , and then the Superior Paper Plant (Custom Content) on your right. You will then pass through back-yards and then into Binghamton Station. After the station is a dumper that was used when Quarryville was in operation as well as a coach and freight yard for the railroad. North Western New Jersey Trackage
This is an area that resembles the New York, Susquehanna & Western’s Line from Sparta, NJ to Warwick, NY. You’ll see a deep valley on your right and further off the cut through the mountains where the highway now parallels the railroad. After this section you will be running on an embankment above some used and unused farmland. The O&W’s Highview Tunnel
About 15 years ago, when I was about 8 or so years old, my Father took me to the Highview Tunnel in Wurtsboro, NY. It’s been abandoned since 1957, but it was amazing to walk through the woods on the abandoned rail bed and come upon this eerie tunnel. I’ve have tried to recreate this in Trainz. You’ll come into Bloomingburg, which is the small town at the South End of the Tunnel, the tunnel is one track so make sure you have the green light. Once you exit the tunnel, Wurtsboro and the valley will be on your left. Then you will cross the bridge over old Route 17 and there is the Mamakating Station. A station that served Wurtsboro even though it was a mile out of town. This is the end of the route for now. I’m planning on another 20 or so baseboards until I get to Syracuse. I have to compile a list of the Custom Content I have used. There is not that much but I think it will be a helpful reference to those who would like to have all assets for the route. Please send feedback to:
NYOW2000@hotmail.com
Or
NYOW2000@yahoo.com Thanks,
Dave
