Feb-27-02, 07:29 PM (EST) "What's all the Hubbub?" OMG. I just got trainz this morning and installed it immediately upon arriving home. Needless to say, I spent the next SEVERAL hours enjoying it.. This in NO WAY is intended to start a "who's sim is better" war, but all I can say is that after using MSTS for the past 9 months, Trainz is very refreshing! I don't understand why some folks are still complaining. For the first time in several months I actually drove a train without worrying about fixing problems or dealing with lockups and CTD's. And yes, while MSTS was very good in it's own way, it will be coming off my hard-drive now... Trainz left me feeling like I was actually inside the cab driving this thing. It sounded right, it looked good, it felt good. My framerates are great on a PIII 866, 512Mb RAM, and Geforce2 Ti200. I even fired up the Surveyor and made a VERY simple layout in almost no time at all, something I have yet to even come close to accomplishing with MSTS......and I haven't even downloaded the service-pack yet, so it can only get better. I know sim-folks are notorious for wanting perfection, but geez folks, just enjoy it, it's called FUN. I work a ten hour day and come home to the computer to have FUN, not to WORK! Anyway, this post doesn't really have a point, and isn't meant to bash anyone. Just wanted to say I love this product and will be around for quite a while. Later.Shawn

Feb-28-02, 00:23 AM (EST) 1. "RE: What's all the Hubbub?" Well all I can say Shawn is... Ditto!!! And I'm not looking back either. It took me months in MSTS to achieve just a fraction of what I have in 3 weeks with TRAINZ. Check out my 1st TRAINZ layout; size 24 boards, called the Tall Trees & Boardwalk RRhttp://www.surfsedge.com/TTBWRR.htmMessage Areas - "What's all the Hubbub?" – image 2railtester Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-28-02, 02:05 AM (EST) 3. "RE: What's all the Hubbub?" MSTS - Trainz, Trainz - MSTS??Amazing. Simply amazing. I can't wait until it's ready for download. Any thoughts of posting it to Aurans' site for inclusion in the "Download Station"?My only real gripe is the 3D cab view. Don't get me wrong I like it, but I also like MSTS ability to turn it off.Works much better in the full size cab simulator when you don't see the inside of the cab outside the window!. Feb-28-02, 02:00 AM (EST) 2. "RE: What's all the Hubbub?" Here, Here!!In full agreement with the MSTS vs Trainz debate. Both are good at what they were intended for.But.......I personally have spent way too much of my limited free time TRYING to do in MSTS what I DID do in Trainz. Purchased a bunch of Abacus MSTS add on products in hopes of helping me along the path. They are great products, but I don't see any further use for them. Thanks Auran! Now off the soapbox. Feb-28-02, 10:34 AM (EST) 4. "RE: What's all the Hubbub?" Ditto again. I had just started Michael Vone's tutorial on MSTS for layouts when I purchased Trainz last night. 30 seconds in the Surveyor told me my train simming days were changing - permanently.piperone Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-28-02, 03:25 PM (EST) 5. "RE: What's all the Hubbub?" I agree 100%. Trainz is wonderful!! I know I would never have the patience to build a route using the Route Editor for MSTS, but with Surveyor, I can actually build routes and have a wonderful time doing it. Mar-03-02, 04:22 AM (EST) 8. "RE: What's all the Hubbub?" What can i say that hasn't already been said -) I love the program. My six year daughter loves the program. We both create layouts using surveyor. They look a bit different but we both have great fun. Even my wife who hates computers (although she has a computer degree) smiles at us doing this together. I'm afraid that MSTS is just taking up space now on my HD. When I need the space it will be the first to go.... and Trainz is only going to get better. Their committment to development and service is outstanding. The communuty and addons is growing fast. Don't know how I am going to find the time.Cheers James Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>Cheers James Hi James,It is great to hear that both your daughter and yourself are enjoying Trainz. I'm acutally just about to post on the Trainz forum general discussion area about an idea for a Kidz Trainz Club (15 years and under). The Club would have its own moderated forum area, we are considering holding special competitions for members of the Kidz Club and perhaps even creating and releasing Trainz models etc. for Kids. We would appreciate feedback on this idea. Let us know what you think Cheers,John Banks

Mar-03-02, 11:31 AM (EST) 9. "RE: What's all the Hubbub?" Puchased Trainz last week. Created my first layout this week. Trainz is the way to go. I am not very good at complicated CAD or 3D software. Thank you Trainz for simplifying this for me. Roger D. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Hey Dgauci and the rest of of Trainz Slammers you reading these posts.... no I dont expect so. Only if lsomeone slams MTS.He he as a point of reference the other day I was on the MTS forum and counted out of the 25 post headings on the forum over half of them were complaints because MTS was not working properly........ and this is still nearly 1 year after the program was launched. just an observation mind...... we should be due for another patch from MS in about 4 months me thinks.Hentis

Mar-03-02, 07:52 PM (EST) 11. "RE: What's all the Hubbub?" Tucson Coyote hereThe Real Fun with Trainz isn't driving the Trainz (It's Building the rail Lines..And the Other fun thing is that you can take standard DEM Greyscales or if you want to you can create your own Land models just by Breaking out your paint program and do it in either 24 bit color or 8 Bit Grey Scale ..(That's the real fun! Designing your own layouts from scratch..Another advantage of Trains is this you have complete flexibility when it comes to the baseboards (Adding/Deleting..)
you can take your routes into rather convoulted lines of build a Line with Steep Grades..(Without doing all the Manipulations..)in short you can do in hours or Days what it takes the so called techies of MSTS to do in days or Weeks..(or Months!) and the real fun is that you can add your own "flavor" to the line..Frankly myself, I like Mountain Lines (Rail lines with fairly steep grades, tunnels, and bridges) as the scenes can beome quite spectacular..and if My memory serves me correctly if you got a Large disk (Hard drive) you probably can model quite very realistic lines (Right down to the grades and signalling (Though it will become better over time..)Probably the best 45 Bucks I ever spent will be on Trainz..(And with the addons and additional service packs to make things more real, I have a Feeling that MSTS definitely is going to have a few converts when all of a sudden someone with Trainz, creates identical routes of what took MSTS Techies a few days/weeks/months, in just a few hours, days or even a week or two..Frankly I would love to see some of those prototype lines (Cajon Pass, Tehaccapi, Raton, Sherman Hill, Donner Summit, to name a few) done in trainz...Any Takers?

Coyote,
You are right the layout building is one of the best things. I have built three well 2 so far. one based on 7 boards based on the Merrimac and Southern Railroad layout in 49 Top notch layouts.... Published by Kalambach books. The other is a Beta layout for Auran which is a bog standard long oval with an elevated figure of eight....with grades ( just let say it does need helpers on some trains to get up there. The third layout and the biggest (about 3.79 meg and 35 baseboards is a prottype route but has a few locatrions in it from my local railway line. + it will have a few other places in it as well From around the world.I know that 3dtrainstuff.com are working on some cool trainz stuff but they have not announced anything just yet. ( lets hope its a fully populated Tehachapi pass route and rolling stock.....oh Yeah. hmmm idea springs to mind.....HentisHentis.THE FUTURES BRIGHT, THE FUTURES TRAINZ -
