I appreciate, along with many others the time and effort that goes into the recent flood of RR freight cars (an some?? limited number of basic passenger cars) as I am trying to learn repainting of the ones I want to do myself that are missing.Bill Cline, Ted Curphey, Larry Gross and may earlier others have done some good cars and railroads (well, some of the "ficticious schemes" are a little hokey, but maybe there's a market too)....BUT WHY DO WE HAVE TO BE SUBJECTED TO THAT @!#$%^&*+) MINDLESS GRAFFITTI SCRIBBLE CRAP ON A CAR IN THE DOWNLOAD LIBRARYIt may be "Photo realisttic" of the cars that pass through today's Ghettos and the mindless generation doing it that DOESN'T have Train Sim or Lionel's............BUT WHY THE #$@%&* DO WE HAVE TO BE SUBJECTED TO HOODLUM TRASH in our Sim World too??????????Let's just stop offering that kind of crap.....Free ware OR payware (will be next I suppose)Doug

RE: #@$%&* GRAFFITTI

There are somethings in the downloads I don't like either. You know what I do? I don't download it. The same you can do with these "mindless cars". This discussion has been held in the past. Some people don't like them, which is fine with me. I have no problem with that. There are some downloads which I think are crap. Do I come on the forum and say we shouldn't have them? No! There are people that like to run as real as they can. Whether you like it or not, this is the real world. If these downloads aren't allowed because some people don't like them then this site is not doing what it is intended to do. Like I say, you don't like them, nobody is making you look at or download them!Yours in Railroading,

Jerry

RE: #@$%&* GRAFFITTI

Hi, Doug. I've done at least one Graffiti painted reskin on a CSX hopper. I can't remember if it's pictured in the library or not, but it was part of a CSX hopper pack. If it was picture, and the graffiti was offensive to you, I apologize and I agree that we should not put offensive pictures (i.e. obscene graffiti drawings) in the file library because that is a "public" environment. However, in general I agree with the sentiment of this thread, i.e. if you don't want grafitti on your cars, don't download cars with graffiti. In my particular CSX reskin set, I believe I had about 10 cars with only one graffiti one. The other 9 can safely run independently of the graffiti one, so if you don't like it, feel free to delete it from your trainset folder.

RE: #@$%&* GRAFFITTI

Doug What you see in the file library is work done by people that ranges from new shapes to reskins. The shapes as Danny pointed out take the time to make from new and if you can work in a 3D enviroment then please make some new models. If you can work within PSP or Adobe Photoshop then please reskin your own rolling stock. We can live in the past or move to the present. Some graffetti is down right bad while some is a work of art.
This is a community where you have a choice to download or not thats your choice were the person next to you may want some graffetti on a car or two.If I had my way there would only be SD40 and SD40-2's made but it isn't going to happen. Just Rollin Down The Tracks

RE: #@$%&* GRAFFITTI

You take offense to the graffitti cars but then you post this: "Bill Cline, Ted Curphey, Larry Gross and may earlier others have done some good cars and railroads (well, some of the "ficticious schemes" are a little hokey, but maybe there's a market too)...."Some people might take offense to their ficticious scheme as being "hokey". In whose eyes, yours? Maybe they like their fictious scheme and didn't think it was hokey. To each his own. Yours in Railroading,

A lot of the reskins are taken from actual photos. Of course since actual real cars have graffiti, the real photo skins will also tend to have graffiti. So we should be thankful, I sure am, for the great reskins. The graffiti is just a necessary evil when it comes to photo skins. To remove them would require a hell of a lot more work. And sometimes the overall result isn't very good. I'm actually the kind that looks for cars that are weathered and have graffiti to download. Many a time, since the car was too clean or didn't have enough graffiti, I didn't download it. Something you may want to try (just in reverse of the way I do it )#@$%&* Graffitti – image 3

I didn't mean to get everyone going............BUT.....I still think those of us that want it should be given the option of clean ACE files to eliminate this problem. And YES..........I don't download this stuff but it does get really old & one sided scrolling down the page of new Uploads to find on some days over half of them represent this type of car. What I am beginning to know about repainting techniques, some of the "minor" ones of a car I need, I have tried to eliminate this "unwanted addition".The NYC Transit Authority years ago had a massive problem with this ruining their rolling stock, realized it was not "an ART FORM or CREATIVITY" and took a very agressive approach to ELIMINATING both it
and the source. To JKlein: I don't criticize the works these people do when they turn out a great car......look at Rick Lamp, Bill Hemb, and numerous Payware individuals (G. Belanger, 3D Trains, Dekosoft) YES I support THEM.To Yellow Dog: I see your point about the CSX hopper, though the "being adult offensive" isn't the point. There is a BNSF Center Flow hopper that had some "interesting" (well done?? maybe) adult graffitti (Oddballs Decals has produced it in HO scale)and that was my limit of accepting any kind of added scribbles. At least it conveyed SOMETHING other than ruining the side of a car. BTW, working in the RR industry professionally, this sort of thing becomes a REAL pain in the posterior and causes major problems when it covers car info/maintenance data.To UP6767......maybe some of us not only "live in" but came from another time when this trash wasn't tolerated in the world.DougI still agree with a few of the ones here, we shouldn't be subjected to every car file having it.Doug

Well gee.....I would have never thought that my time, effort that I put in to making some realistic railcars. To sit back and take request from other simmers to make the exact cars that they want from the pics they send me...offends you because of a little artwork?!?!? I believe we can call this seasoned and weatheredIf you want clean railcars...try sending some pics of clean railcars to someone who offers thier skills.
Bottom line, You do not like......DO NOT DOWNLOAD THEM!!!!Whats next "no rust or dirt"

RE: #@$%&* GRAFFITTI

Personally, I don't think graffiti is art. Artistic, yes, but also illegal and disruptive to rail service (which sort of takes it out of the "art" category for me). However, it does appear in real life, so it appears in reskins. There are enough "non-graffiti" repaints out there to make up the difference, though, if you don't want graffiti.

I used to be a 'purist' but I have to admit that some graffiti can be rather interesting. I caught this salt hopper on a siding at Silver Springs NY, and then lensed the opposite side of the car as NS H1R made its pickup...Tim Baldwin

RE: #@$%&* GRAFFITTI

First, let me say that I understand, in general, the poster's feelings about graffitti. It can certainly be unsightly. However, I personally love the photo-image stuff that's being created by these talented gentlemen, showing this "artwork". I think it adds so much to the realism of the experience. I, rarely if ever, see "un-tagged" cars. And, while some are just blotches of paint, some really are quite entertaining. As was mentioned, it's just the users preference, and if you prefer your rollingstock clean, don't d/l these.

RE: #@$%&* GRAFFITTI

Doug,Hmmmm...you've stirred up feelings, for sure!I am ambivalent about boxcar graffiti. Can take it or leave it. However, most of the time, I don't select graffitied cars.I sometimes will do a graffitied car which someone has sent me but I don't go looking for them. Sometimes, I will select a photo of a car with graffiti because the car itself is attractive. Often as not, I will remove the graffiti if it is reasonably removable. I doubt most people would be able to see my modification. Anyway, if you check my work (search on bill cline in the library) you won't find too much graffiti. Frankly, I think it detracts from the real beauty of a boxcar. Too glaring.Besides, I really prefer to do cars that were active during the 30s to 70s. I don't remember seeing graffiti when I was a kid and really don't like to see it now. I'm just a 73 year old fogie whose motto is "to each his own".Bill Cline

Bill...Your work is one of the excellent ones....and you're right, we DIDN'T see such things in the 50's to 70's, because kids were kept in line both by parents, schools, the law and HOBBIES....be it slot cars, trains, race cars whatever. DESTRUCTION of Public or Private property(rr cars, buildings) WAS NOT TOLERATED or given political correctness as "art", "ethnic heritage" or "creativity".Sadly, we can't reverse it, but the 60's "protest era" really destroyed a lot of "straightness" in our society back then.As for KILROY, and what leter became MoPac"s HERBIE, it was something that was kind of "obscure" and didn't create the need for acid bath cleaners to get rid of it.DougPS: Thank God for PASSENGER CARS, at least they HAD to be kept clean!!!! Im sorry but I MUST let out my opinion of this topic. You say that school and all that kept kids in line. well in the 1970's IF YOU REMEMBER gangs where starting to appear weather is was the KKK or some hate group that went around writing really bad stuff like the "harrasment" crap. which i never thought was right. cuase everyone should be treated equaly if ya dont like them or not. but anywayz. thats when people started writing "tag" names on the car. i have a tag "LuckyCharmz" cuase im irish, but i only write it on MY own stuff. Kids now join gangs that destroy things and such. paint Graffitti on RR cars and building. whatever they find. its what makes them happy. if they want to go and tag a railroad car. go ahead do it. cuase the the ID's of the car ARE on the top part of the ends that kids cant touch. a few list of people that do this kinda of BS are:
Troubled Kids they are negleted by Parents (Which DOES happen now)
Gang Bangers
Losers
and people that dont have a brain.
Yes im trouble. BUT I DONT TAG A CAR CUASE I KNOW BETTER!!! im not supid. so what most people are saying on here. we do realistic photo repaints. if ya dont like this graffitti stuff. like my cars i did. dont download them. it will save time from haveing to post something like this on here..
there is my two pennies

If you don't like it, don't download it, ignore it.I'm no expert, I can't explain why people tags cars.......but, it's a part of real life. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.Just don't ignore the tagged cars//////calling attention to this is not needed, it's already been beaten into the ground here before!!-Jeffrey
