Problem with the Alpha Channel on James Hunt's Superlin – image 1

I have been working with James Hunt's Superliner car on Reskining. The Biggest Probkem with his model is that the Windows on the car are already coded into the shape file. I would like to beable to do Custom Windows on the car through Alpha Texturing. I have tried to do my own Alpha Texturing on the cars, but with no luck as it is not set to accept them on that portion of the shape file.Does anyone here know how to fix this problem?

I still believe Surfliner is a real MSTS route not Vaporware

I'm not certain, but have you looked at the s file with Shape File Manager. I think it is possible to change the material in the original from SolidNorm to AlphaNorm.

Well I didn't see that in the SFM but I did get the alpha to work from the shape file. Now I need to get rid of those existing windows. BTW I am working with the Diner Car files because it has fewer of these windows.

RE: Problem with the Alpha Channel on James Hunt's Supe

You are correct. SFM allows you to uncompress the s file, and then go down inside it using WordPad. About half way through you will find references to the materials used in the s file.
I have not done it, but presume you can change them by editing the materials. The problem is - you can't tell exactly which portion you are changing. I suppose you could change one, and save and then look at the object and see if you can determine what happened.

RE: Problem with the Alpha Channel on James Hunt's Supe

Here's what I've been making off and on for awhile now, as time and interest in the hobby permits. I've made them as prototypical as I can, based on the resources I've got.
Still waiting to be done are the trucks/bogies, end detailing, some minor things on the sides. Wheels are modeled, just not on in this shot. Names/numbers are done, just not implemented yet. The interior still has to be done too...
But anyway... hope the world takes these well...

amtkfan79, will those windows on those be from the Alpha Channel or hard shaped into the shape file. I also want to know if those are use or Tim's shapes from where he let you work with them?

RE: Problem with the Alpha Channel on James Hunt's Supe

I'm actually having some trouble with the windows and the whole alpha sorting thing. I've been trying to follow the 3DTrains Passenger Car SDK but I'm missing a step somewhere when setting up the modeling hierarchy. So you may get cars with translucent windows, and you may not. If not, and I eventually figure out the problem, there would be a patch.
To answer your question tho, the windows would be hard-coded into the shape file, they're basically built "on top" of the carbody. So you can't move them around. When I get done tho, there won't be much in terms of car types not done, so you shouldn't have to worry... If we're talking about the same Tim, he never modeled any Superliners that I ever knew of. The ones he had pictures on his site of way long ago(like last year) were mine(he was just the only one to ever run them because they were nowhere near done at the time). The ones I showed above are also my models, but heavily re-done(and in a different *better* 3D modeling program). I also posess the original source model files for each.
