Chuck,While the ole trailer is in the $hop getting refitted with a pair of new axle$, I’ll pass the time with a project on my ‘to-do’ list. So…, I thought you might be interested in the ‘preliminary’ repaint of the NALW NH Alco. Who knows…, I just might even have the time to complete it.Have a sparkling day!!BobPS: BYW what’s the status on the 8600 Pullmans??
Yes I agree very nice but Chuck wont answer most likely on this post. Email him and he will be more cooperative.

Well, if that ain't an old, familiar face... This was the second re-skin project I ever did, and still didn't really know what I was doing at that point. The truth of the matter is that, after about 1957 or so, the engines spent most of their time vascillating between dirty and absolutely filthy. Some of the second batch never were repainted from their delivery green before they were scrapped. I like what you've done with them, Bob, particularly the Pullman Greeen unit. You've definitely captured that well-(ab)used look...Since I did them for NALW, you'll need to send Chuck an e-mail. My guess is that he won't have a problem, but I can't speak for him.As to the 8600s - and the rest of the SS Cars, as the oldtimers called them - I didn't know what I was doing when I started them either. This actually started as a result of some correspondence with Dennis Owens, who did the 8600 currently in the F/L. He warned me about a steep learning curve...After about two years work, and three or four major rebuilds to the shape (to keep a very long story short), I'm at something we can develop into a set worth releasing. The basic models of most of the cars are done, and the interiors will be developed once I have the full set of cars being tested. Ultimately, NALW will release them in every variant we can document, but that is a long-term project.I'm hesitant to talk in terms of a deadline, because I've been burned by too many unforeseen problems, both related and unrelated to the project. That said, the sooner I get them done, the better: I've got several other interesting things in the pipeline. Thanks kindly for your interest in my work. -Phil
Hi Phil, Thanx for your comments. I’ve been messing around with this puppy for a day or so. I punched the ace file (main body only so far) up to 1024x1024 for better detail. I harvested the coloration from the real world photo attached in the first post. Yeah, I also thought the colors were pretty close to the real thing. I’m messing around with various methods of weathering. So far I haven’t landed on a process that pleases me. Like you mentioned, these beasts were often times somewhere between dirty and filthy. But I think I’ve got a pretty good working base. Here a couple of progress shots….,
