I've been modifying the SD9 to make it a SD7. The stairs, number plates and position lights are a bit different from the SD9 according with some photos. I would like to know if anyone is interested about painting this model.Carlos

RE: SD7 repaint

Forgot to add: I can take out the dynamic brakes or the snowplows, add some minor other details, etc. to suit some specific loco (just don't ask me to add very complicated parts because the poly count is already high enough) Carlos

RE: SD7 repaint

No problem, Chaz. I'll also need to take out the flaps over the cab windows to make it look like the SD7 on the photo. Let me know to where can I send the files after I make the modifications.Carlos

RE: SD7 repaint

Thank Carlos!
I'll send you an email...I fould a few other things(horns for one) that need moved. Also, maybe we could cook this one up with a steam generator on it like the Q did on some for passenger service.

RE: SD7 repaint

Carlos
Just a thought, could items like the dynamic brake parts, snowplows, roof beacons, mars lights etc. be made from alpha material?
That way you'd only need to build one model and the repainter could just alpha out the unneeded parts.
BTW let me dig up some ref photos I could more n likely take a shot at a non DB M&StL SD.Gary S

RE: SD7 repaint

Yes they can, the SD10 I'm finishing has an alpha channel for the ditch lights. However, with the snowplows there was a problem with the alpha sort and I haven't had time to look at it yet.Carlos

RE: SD7 repaint

Carlos
Yeah now that you mention it I remember the SD10 alpha features, unfortunately in the creation end alpha's and me don't get along too well(reskining existing alpha's,no prob)maybe if you post the problem your having in the loco design forum someone with a bit more know how than you or I may have the solution.
BTW I've tracked down some Louie SD7 pics,so give me some time to sort through and find the best to give you an idea as to what they look like.Gary S

RE: SD7 repaint

Carlos
Here's some pics of a Louie SD7.
As you can see they're a fairly plain vanilla SD,pretty much no dynamics or plows, just footboards on the pilot and a winterization hatch.
The major difference is the as delivered blue/yellow/gray has the single note horn on the roof amidship while the red/white livery has the 3 chime in the same locale.Gary S

RE: SD7 repaint

Thanks for the pics, Gary. I like the 301 and the shape is ready. Now I only need a bit of patience to paint it... Unless there's someone who wants to do it Carlos

If you want to tackle the simplifyed red/white livery I could more than likely handle the as EMD designed 301 livery.
BTW if you should decide to take on the three tone be aware that the colors are off in that photo and the "black" is actually a dark blue.Gary S

RE: SD7 repaint

PM you email to me and I'll send you the shapes (you know mine from ConBuilder). Are you sure about the horn being only one? It looks there's another one behind the cab's roof. And since these locos are short hood forward it's strange that the horn is turned to the rear.Carlos

RE: SD7 repaint

Carlos
I'd need to check some of the other pics to see if they show the other side of the loco but on those early GP/SD high hood designs often times the forward facing horn was located on the short hood near the roof line horizontally posistioned, that may be the case here, needless to say two seperate horn locations meant two places for something to go wrong maintence wise so horn posistions were consolodated to one locale.
I PM'd my email addy a couple nights back but I'll resend.Gary S

RE: SD7 repaint

Hey Carlos-How about an SP style SD7? Need the Gyra light housings and emergency Red light housings on both ends and the horn on the cab roof would suit the engine im thinking of...(1518 at IRM)...Kevin V.

Kevin:
I can change the model to suit those specs, but I need a photo of it and the only SP I've got ready is the red nose colours.Carlos

Thanks Bob, without your help my locos wouldn't worth the download. I know it's like that with every sim.Carlos
