Almost finished with this pup, except the correct font for the "numbers. The closest i came was a font called Amarillo usaf, the "7" is correct, but other numbers don't look right, any ideas? Also because the fact that i used the SP sd70m from cascades route. It seems that this model was "mapped" for the SP version only(as far as i know),which i found out that any scheme with stripes,or different roof color won't be possible, unless the paint is a single color.I tried the 3-color emd demo version, but ran into some problems with the way parts were mapped,so i won't be doing those...sorry.The one you see here will be my last one using what i have as far as the texture files goes. All that is left is the "numbers",and some "weathering" and she'll be all ready to go. Ok,here's some updated pics(weathered, numbered),I made the sd70m font bigger, and i have a side view pic of the numbers for ya Pete.Do ya think the weathering is a bit too heavy?I was going for that "been around since 97'and never been washed look".The numbers are "temp"untill the correct font has been found.Almost forgot, any idea what type of horn these Emd units had? Thanks in advance. RE: EMD Demo...need info?

Don. from what I can see, I think you have the number font close enough. At least from what I can see it looks fine. The only suggestion I have is that you vertically enlongate the Electro-Motive lettering on the side a little bit as it looks a little short and a little too thick. If you elongate it just a bit I think you will have it looking correct. Don't know what program you use but if it is PSP then just use the rectangle box, and then elongate the entire area just a bit. Of course you will have to fix up the other areas that got elongated as well, either that or you would have to color over the old lettering and redo it, but then you might not get it correct so I would just elongate it as is and correct the surrounding areas. Just a suggestion. I mean you can get by with it that way but from the other picture you showed it looks as though the lettering is a little short and a little too thick. Elongating it slightly would do the trick. I would also suggest that you try another SD70M for the other EMD's you want to do. I believe there are some other nice ones around.
But good job all around Don. I like it. I like all of EMD's paint schemes. Nice work! Tim"May the great BNSF 38 pumpkin carry you to your new home, Cyndi and may you engineer her for an eternity"

Nope, I know tha AMARILLO USAF font... It really won't do it justice...I'll do some research and get back to you with a better number font match...I know you won't believe this... but I had already started an EMD "electro-motive" font, I just need to find where I stashed it.Weathering looks fine... but the only SD70M picture I have (I just realized I had one) is from EMD, so it's fresh paint.

RE: EMD Demo...need info?

Tim,I can see where your coming from...but,if ya look at emd#7023 the Electro-motive font is thicker than that on emd#7006.Also when i line up the electromotive font,i look at the reference pic and see where it is located on the body panels(i.e just above the center hinges up to ?,and the lettering starts just past the 2nd panel and ends right before the 2nd to last panel),that's how i judge the positioning of the logo..I've tried adjusting the "kerning",and "leading"to fit into the dimensions, but it doesn't always work out, sometimes it depends on the font being used.I use PSP7 millenium edition, and am pretty familiar with it.I know alot of "tricks",so i can manipulate alot of things etc.I make it a habit to make at least 5 copy's of each bitmap, just in case i screw up.As far as using some-one elses model, well it's like this i usaully favor the model that is easiest to work with and the way parts are "mapped",expecially when there are "stripes" involved. Some models are mapped for a peticular paint scheme and won't work with other paint schemes. For instance models with photo-skins are difficult to re-skin(for me)so those are a no-no,cause you have to draw-in all the body panels, shading, etc, then you got the different configurations of ditchlights,headlights,plows...the list goes on.So,for the time bein'I'll just have to wait till the appropriate model becomes avaliable, and sure enough it usaully does.Pete, first off, thanks for your help, and hope ya find something, but if not ,it's "no big deal"...maybe it's still a Amirillo font, but their maybe other types of that same font? ChrisEDIT: I'm gathering something in your spacebar is goofed. I'd gather if thats the case, you must have a hard time at gradecrossings (or is it grade crossings?).

Grade crossing would be correct.Try to ease up alittle on the perfectionist thing.Nothing on the planet is perfect. When you're at your best there is still some flaws.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh EastEMD Demo… need info? – image 20

Well, as I mentioned Claude, I wasn't trying to be a pain. I understand if he has problems, but I was saying if he could, he not do it, for it makes it hard to decifer, thats all. Chris

I think Dick Cowen is working on a freeware SD70M/SD70MAC pack... his models are set up to allow virtually any paint scheme you want. The older three-color scheme definitely won't be any problem on those.Bruce Bridges
