You can probably eliminate the hatch by modifying the alpha channel on one of the .aces. The hardest part is going to be locating it - you'll have to proceed by trial and error. Make sure you have a backup for the .ace (I usually backup the whole folder), pick some bright colors to scrawl over the .ace and open the loco in the sim and get a fix on where it is. Once you have it delineated you can black out the corresponding portion of the alpha. When editing the alpha, I suggest you isolate the folder, then use TgaTool2 to save the modified alpha as a .tga before converting with MakeAceWIN. I did something similar in modifying a 3DTrains CNW to match a high-hood ATSF model. Marc's original readme indicated that many of the various features of his geeps could be removed via a modified alpha, and using the method above I located the shroud on the CNW main2 .ace, then modified the associated alpha channel to mask it out. The wire grill in the shroud opening remained, however, floating above the fan; I was able to locate it in the A2_wire2.ace file, which used a semi-transparent alpha; when I completely blacked out the alpha box it deleted the wire screen. Here's a high-hood ATSF GP-7 warbonnet version, No. 2803, based on CNW GP9 No. 1769 from 3DTrains. The CNW's shroud and grill have been aplha'd out, the side frame cutouts modified to match the ATSF pattern and the skin borrowed from 3DTrains' low-nose ATSF geep:

Sorry, no. I'm patching a CR SD60M into NS numbering and I will also patch some CR SD50s and '60s. I will need the permission first but they should be in the file library in a few days.Conrail rules!!!

RE: Winterization Hatch

Thanx Andy but I'm using Bruce Bridges SD60M as a starting point and I think he uses that color. I posted shots of the engine in the screenshot forum. Conrail rules!!!

Whoa...looks like you nuked the alpha channel entirely. I can't see the rad fans through the grilles, nor can I see through where the mesh on the winterization hatch should be.Anyway, here is the location of the winterization hatch, in the second textureJonathan Nikiforovs.

RE: Winterization Hatch

I have the same problem as well with the KHP2 Locomotives, I'm doing this unit 6005 that doesn't have the winterization hatch but only has the cooling pipes and someone blanked the sd40w.ace in the alpha and for me and it shows up with the 2 sides and if I look around the unit the sides of the old winterization hatch move as well .

Mike:
Whoever did it didn't get the WHOLE winterization hatch, but just the top part. Make the black box bigger that masks the WH on the alpha channel and see if that will help make the sides disappear. Trial and error. Edit: Added "Mike:"

Umm Claude, it's still there. No one has deleted anything from this thread (all the replies are numbered in a sequential, unbroken pattern). What are you talking about?Perhaps you did not get the joke: Bud posted a link back to this very thread, because someone asked a question that had already been answered in the thread...Jonathan Nikiforovs.
