Bobby, and please take this in the best of lights ok. If you would tone down the dark lines on the white parts of that SOO it would look much better. And remember, there are shadows on engines which should not be overlooked. Like I said, please take these comments as trying to be helpful, not hurtful. I want you to send up a SOO loco that you will be proud of and everyone will want to download. Remember that when you ask a question here, expect an honest answer, at least from me. I am always just a PM away if you need any advice or help in the area of reskinning. I am certainly not the best but I do know how and know what it takes to make a reskin look good. Good luck with it. TimWestern Maryland "Gone but never forgotten"
Bobby Right off I noticed the little vents on the nose and the sand hatch cover need touching up,try finding the area of the file that covers headlights as the silver headlamp housings don't look quite right and the slant from red to white looks jagged. Maybe your shapeviewer settings are a little off,try putting the loco in the sim and post some of those pics. All in all you've got a good start thoughGary S

i cant get the angeled strip to be straight right now i am repainting these loco's with ms paint :| the vents on the nose which are white are white on the loco i am modeling this after i am working on the head light problem and i am stumped on it but in the end things will hope fully work out from Bobby
Bobby Ah that might be part of the problem as MS paint is (from what I've heard)just barely useful for reskinning,If you're going to get heavily involved(particularly if you want to move into the area creating the model to be skinned)you'll want to move up to Paintshop pro or Photoshop, I'm not slamming you one is limited by the tools and funds at their disposal. As to the vents I remember the nose as all red but I'll admit it's been a good long.long time since I,ve seen one in action(if the wind is out of the east I can hear the engines and horns on their WC/CN replacments)can you post a link or the pic you're working from? if not at least try to find more than one pic to work from as sometimes there can be a glare in the pic or some other condition to the photo that fools the eye. A good example of that is there was a CGW F unit uploaded to the file library with the red, black and maroon paint job but it had a (almost) neon green roof in discussions with the reskinner it was determined that he'd worked from photos of the restored FP7 on display in Oelwien Ia. at the CGW museum, the roof was(and is on the restored loco)a very, very dark green but the photo that was used as refference was shot at such an angle and the light hit at just the right way that the photo looked bright green on the roof. and don't forget the sand hatch. Finally the headlight, there might be not much that can be done with that right now as that might have something to do with alpha channels a function that MS paint can't handle. But as I said you've got a good start you are just at the moment being hampered by the tools at your disposal keep hammering away.Gary S

Well, I certainly agree with you Gary. I didn't realize he was using MSPaint. He is certainly hampered by using that program but if that is all he can afford then that is all he can afford to work with, but I know of a couple of people here that can do excellent work using just MSPaint so...... I just think he needs to continue onward and take your advice, and some of mine and others and go from there. My first reskins looked like crap now that I look at them so he is doing better than me already. I just wanted to point out the obvious things first and hoped he would repost a pic again so we could go from there. I agree, keep hammering away. It's the only way you will learn. And you can download a free thirty day version of both programs mentioned. I prefer PaintShop Pro, but I do use both at times. Bobby, just keep at it and you will get it to your liking I am sure. And don't let anyone's comments dissuade you in any way. After all, you really only have to please yourself. This isn't a contest here, to see who can reskin the best. Just do your best and that's all you can do. The more you do the better you will get.Good luck with it and let us see your progress.TimWestern Maryland "Gone but never forgotten"
Bobby Good job then, because you kicked some major booty with that J 40-2 and you'll be able work some the alphable features once you've got a program that'll allow you to manipulate alpha channels.Gary S
