As much as I would like to see one, there is not a suitable model (non-dynamic SD9) to skin into NS colors. I was going to skin #55 a while back but I was unable to find a correct model.

Hi Jake, Thanks for the reply. If you wanted to anyway, I'd be happy with a "fanasty" reskin of the SD9. Happy Rails Patrick

The units as Nickel Plate Road SD9s were brand-new when I was a kid. It is remarkable that they have survived so long and are still productive. It will be great to see a model without the dynamic brakes. Good luck with the project.

I too wanted to do an SD9 but lost intrest upon realising that there where no SD9s without Dynamic Breaks in the library. It will be nice to have a Non DB SD9. I'm guessing the NS keeps them in the midwest as they wouldn't be fun in the mountins.Paint Shop, Yonder Locomotive Works.

#58 was doing work in Bellvue Ohio. I haven't been to Bellvue to see if ol #58 is still around. I hope it still is, it really neat to see an old locomotive still working, and looking really good. Happy Rails Patrick

Keith
Looks nice, any chance of making the ditch lights as an Alphable part with maybe a mars light housing done the same way so that baby could be possibly skinned as other roads back in the era BDL or skinned as God,EMD and the NKP intended herGary S

Er, if anyone doesn't mind me asking, what's the use that these things are assigned to at this point in their careers?

RE: NS SD9 reskin request

yard switchers. There are usually 2 roaming around Bellvue yard (Ohio), I gather 1-2 are also in Chattanooga Tenn. Couldn't hazard a guess where the others are except to say large yards. Does NS still roster nine SD9 rebuilds? most are NKP heritage with the final 2(?) being Central of Georgia heritage. with no dynamics, no turbo, recent electrical rebuilds (may be other components rebuilt), and low speed work service - they should run another 20+ years without much trouble. tc tallant

RE: NS SD9 reskin request

>58 is ex-CG, however it is lettered NW, while 54 is letter CG although it is ex-NW (NKP).this was the result of swapping engines to maintain trust agreements. something to do with having the CofG engines operational, it all sounds a bit questionable to me. From what I gathered (though I may be wrong), NS didn't complete one of the rebuilds so there are now 9 operational engines & one "stored". can anyone confirm/refute this? tctallant

RE: NS SD9 reskin request

Speaking of a mars ight ... all but the CG units were NKP units. Just subtrack 2000 from the NW numbers and you get the original NKP number. They had mars lights on the short hood in the location of the headlight. The headlight was moved down. The mars light stuck out about 10" in a "snoot". I'm doing some reskins of Dick Cowen's GP7's & 9's and hope to have mars lights on my NKP geeps.

Wow that looks great, I saw one in Marion Oh a few months back heading north and not under power (that is probably not a good thing) I'm guessing it was headed to Bellvue. It was tucked in behind a pair of C40-9s with a manifest train, also don't remember which train it was. I have a picture somewhere if I can find it.Just down the road from the CSX/NS Buckeye Yard.
