RE: NS SD50/60s

Hey, I live right next to a small NS yard and see them all the time. If we can ever get some good weather, and after a month of total crap I am having my doubts, I will see if I can get you some pics with my daughter's digital. Will let you know.
I'll try to get some close up shots, if I can sneak in closer. It's a small yard and so that might not be a big problem. Anyway will keep you posted. If the weatherman would just cooperate....lol! RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

RE: NS SD50/60s

Ok if you can get shots with the original owner letters clearly shown under the cab number, that would be great. I am plannig on making many with different road numbers and slight paint job varriations. I have yet to find a picture of one labled as an N&W unit, dose anyone know if the N&W had any. I also have not found any former conrail spartin cab SD60s in black paint yet, dose anyone have a picture of one. I have plenty of former Southern and Central of Georgia units. Here is the first SD60 I have made, it's almost done, it will be uploaded tonight, it might have a few of it's sister units uploaded with it.Check Out the WVK&O Railways Homepage http://www.angelfire.com/fang/dark_viper/page6.html

RE: NS SD50/60s

Actualy thanks to Dick Cowen's great model and all it's options, it already has rear ditch lights and a plow. As for wethering, I only have paint and can't realy do anything great as far as weathering. If someone else wants to weather a few, I can send them to you. The SD50's are on the way also, but 6698 will be in the library in factory fresh paint soon.Check Out the WVK&O Railways Homepage http://www.angelfire.com/fang/dark_viper/page6.html

There is that EMD NS low-nose cabview available as part of the Common.Cab project that somebody's been working on; if I remember right, you can choose between no signals or two types of cab signals. Would that be anything like you're talking about? Admittedly, that's a short-hood forward view, and I haven't the foggiest as to how one converts it to a long-hood forward view. For what it's worth, that and the high-nose view from those guys now serve as the backbone of my NS cabviews, along with the Mike Karlik control stand D9-40CW cabview. Good stuff all around, eh.

I have those cabviews and they work really well.So you've tried the low nose version with your new SD60 NS reskin? Maybe you could post a screenshot of the cabview.

If you're asking me, no I haven't. The only NS SD60 I have is 6656, which is in the file library as an SD50 (sd50nskb.zip) and it's got the low-nose, no cab signal view. I'd be happy to post a screenshot, if you'd like. The sole concession to "inaccuracy" might be the fact that there's a digital speedometer, but it's so useful to me that I refuse to get rid of the thing in any of the locomotives that I've put that cab in.

NS4Life not all the SD60s are labeled as longhood forward.I'd have to did up my roster book to find which road numbers begin with the shorthood forward designation. If I'm not mistaken the 6600 series were labelled as shorthood forward.

RE: NS SD50/60s

That's some nice work there! I have one suggestion, maybe you could move the Norfolk Southern down just a little so it's exactly under the NS on the long hood? Here is an example how it should look in real life:NS SD50/60s – image 9

Here is another great site for NS pictures, http://www.nslocos.com/
hope this helps!! Andrew G. (railfanman)

RE: NS SD50/60s

Still can't seem to get a day around here with any sunshine so I do apologize. But I think you are doing a great job with what you have, especially considering what you have to work with for a paint program. Totally amazes me how you can do it so well with that program. My hats off to you.
If there is was any former N&W SD60's that were transferred to NS I am not aware of it. I am not sure they had them either, but then I am not totally versed on the N&W. But if they did, I would spot it because this was a big N&W area, along with the Southern. I will keep my eye out for you though, even if I can't get a good pic and see if I can spot one with an N&W under the window.By the way, I have only seen short cab forwards in this area, if that means anything?Keep up the great work. RE: NS SD50/60s

The NS is surely but slowly getting away from the longhood forward concept.Ecspecially on the long haul runs.Too many complaints of not being able to see that well with the longhood out.I hated running longhood forward because the visibility was bad and the exhaust would choke the heck out of you.

RE: NS SD50/60s

Thanks everyone, for all your help, I have had a connection problem for the last day or so, and just got done uploading the first four, I will work on the former conrail unit , and then start on the SD50s. As I stated before, If someone is interested in wethering any of them, I can make a few other road numbers and send them to you for wethering.Check Out the WVK&O Railways Homepage http://www.angelfire.com/fang/dark_viper/page6.html

RE: NS SD50/60s

The NW had only a handfull of SD50s.They were 6500 to 6505.I think that's correct.

RE: NS SD50/60s

Hi again everyone, I did take care of the marker lights on the front and back before I uploaded the first set of SD60s. I didn't however realise that the word Norfolk Southern was directly under the NS part of the logo untill after the upload. The next set will be corrected, and a patch might be relised to fix that if it is that big a deal. I will wait untill people have run them, before relising any kind of patch. If you find anything else that needs corrected while running them please let me know and I will include it in the patch. My Hotmail account has a way of messing up, It sometimes takes a day or two to get an E-mail. I do check the PM box every night though, so you can PM me if you have trouble E-mailing me. As for cabview, I left Dick Cowen's cabview on the locomotive, just to avoid any problems. It is not hard to change it to another cabview, if you need help doing so please E-mail me. I will be away from my home PC untill sunday, so I will not have a chance to work on the other locomotives untill I get home, and I don't know if I will be able to check my E-mail. I expect to finish the other SD60s and maybee the SD50s sometime next week. Also to anyone who would like to weather a few units , send me your E-mail address. I will send you the skins after I make sure there are no more major issues with the markingsCheck Out the WVK&O Railways Homepage http://www.angelfire.com/fang/dark_viper/page6.html
