"How to make loco ace" into you adress bar and hit enter.
Then click on the first thing that comes up from the search.
When the site loads click on "TGATOOL2" then find the link
were you download it and the just install it.

RE: A special request

Befor using the painting tool you need to make a copy of the
locomotive you want to make. What I do is copy it to my desktop.
One of the MOST IMPORTAINT things you MUST do is to re-name
all the stuff in the eng. file. Like were the name of the
engines are. For example, The engine your using is a Norfolk
Southern engine that has the name "SD70M_NS_2598". Find in you eng file were it says ( "SD70M_NS_2598" )
All you need to do is rename it to what you want it to be. Example. ( "Denver & Western" ). Rename all the stuff that would have SD70M_NS_2598 in it. Thats it for inside the eng file.

RE: A special request

I forgot to tell you that you need to rename the eng file to what
ever the name the engine is so that the engine works. Like the
example of that I gave you erlier. just rename it to Denver & Western.

RE: A special request

There is also a file that is called S. file. The S stands for
Shape. Rename that to Denver & Western. Go back into the eng file and look for were it says what the S
file name is ( It`s not far from the top of the file. ) You must also do this in the SD file. This file is not
big at all. What you need to do to this one is rename it
to Denver & Western and then rename the file itself. And I think thats all you need to do to make it a new
engine that train-sim will reconize. Now lets tell you
how to paint the ace files.

RE: A special request

Jim, and this not to take anything away from Andy, but if you want your own livery of an SD60 to use on your own RR, I might just be able to help you out if you would like.
Of course if you would rather do it yourself that is fine too, but Andy's explanation of how to create your own RR using another RR is a little confusing, even for me to follow, and I know how to do it and what he means to say.....no offense Andy, but while what you said is true, for someone doing this for the first time, I think they would have a little trouble trying to understand the instructions as you have them stated. And I mean no disrespect nor am I trying to suggest you don't know what you are doing. You obviously do but the telling of the explanation is the problem that I see for Jim here.
Wouldn't you rather have your own livery, rather than let's say the UP with your railroad's name on the side of it?
Tell you what. Tell me what colors you want for your engine and I will see what I can do to whip you up something. If you don't like it then fine, you haven't lost anything. I will email you with specific instructions on how to convert an engine that is already on your machine. Fair enough? I like challenges and I love creating new railroads so I don't mind doing this for you. I think I have an SD60 on my HD somewhere.
Let me know and I will get started on it immediately. If you would rather do it yourself then I give me a PM and I will give you more detailed instructions on how to do this.
Again, Andy, please do not take offense. I just think he would have a hard time following your instructions. Also, as you may or may not know, I love doing this type of thing.
Jim, I am uploading to the pictures forum one that I just completed called the Cherokee RR, that I am going to run on my own. If you want to see some of my other creations, do a search on my name, Tim Hunter in the downloads area here and you can see some of the other fictional lines that I have created.Let me know!RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

RE: A special request

Sorry I didn't get back to you before this Jim, but have just purchased a new computer and had to transfer everything over to it, which takes a little time.
Ok, here is the problem with doing your line in UP colors. And it has to do with UP itself. They take a very narrow view of messing with anything UP, whether real world or even in a game or in pictures. And I think using their engines paint scheme with your Denver and Western RR written on the side would violate some protection laws that they have. So, I would rather not do that. I do apologize, but am not going to get myself in trouble with UP for creating this minor change in names.
Now, if you would like I would still make you up something and see if you might not like it, otherwise I guess you will have to learn to do it yourself and run it only on your machine, which is what anyone can do. As long as it is on your own machine then you wouldn't have any troubles.
If you would like to do this yourself with the UP colors then I will gladly give you an explanation of how to accomplish this yourself. Actually it would not be very difficult. All you would need to do is get tgatool2 and a paint program, I prefer Paint Shop Pro. You can download a demo of it for 30 days and everything works. Plenty of time for you to do what you have to do. Then go into tgatool, open up the UP engine ace file you wish to put your own name on, send it to your paint program. There is a setting in tgatools where you can tell it which paint program you are using and where it is and the paint program will automatically open with the ace file now in bitmap form. All you have to do at that point is get rid of the UP and add your own name to this ace file. Very easy to do. Once that is done you can then save the file (just hit save, not save as) close down the paint program and tgatool2, which is still running in the background will automatically have the changes made. All you do then is save the file as an ace file (check and see if it has an alpha channel. Look on the right hand side and if there is a white box with black or grey places showing then it has alpha channel), if it does have an alpha channel then save the engine to an ace by clicking on the area that says export, the click on the Ace Alpha - not DXT link, it will then open up the same folder your original ace file was in and all you need to do is click on the appropriate ace file and it will overwrite it with the new information. If there is no alpha channel then click on ace (no alpha) and it will do the same thing as I explained earlier. If you are going to just use it on your own computer (and I urge that you do and not mess with UP) then you do not have to change the file names or anything. They will show up as UP, but they will have your logo on the side. If you wanted to change the names then you would have to do as Andy suggested and it gets even more complicated.
Personally, I would create a completely new railroad livery, one unique to your own railroad. Otherwise you are going to have to keep it on your own computer only. As I stated earlier, UP does not like people messing with their liveries, even in a game, unless you get special permission.
Let me know if this helps or if you would like to try something different. RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

RE: A special request

Ok Jim, I will give it a whirl. I am putting the finishing touches to an SD70 of my own livery right at the moment but should have that completed by tomorrow and then I will go to work on yours. Blue it shall be. It may take me as much as a week to get it done, so please be patient. I will keep you updated as I go along. Then again, I might get it done in just a few days. Thanks to Dick Cowen's model, we now have something nice to work with for that model. In fact my next model of my own fictional RR will be one of these so it will be good practice. Just be patient and I will keep you posted. Probably in a PM, so check that area of the sight for any messages from me. No sense tying up this forum any longer.
Denver & Western it shall be, in blue. Should be fun to do.RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

RE: A special request

Jim, I just went through our posts again and the ones with Andy and first you have it as Denver Central, then Denver & Central, then Denver & Western. Now I am a little confused. I have one side of the engine done (and boy is it taking longer than I thought. I haven't reskinned a 1024 x 1024 before and didn't realize that the detailing would be so long in doing, but of course it will be great in the end, because the detailing makes the entire engine. And it is fun doing as well. So given that time frame, it will probably take me another two or three days to complete. I will send it to you for your approval. It is not exactly the way you said you wanted it but I think you will like what I have done with it. If not then I am going to use it for myself because I really love the livery and the colors. Then I will do you another one. But I really think you will like it. Once I get this ace sheet done I will send you a copy of the file in jpeg format. Of course it won't be the same as seeing it up and running but I think you will get an idea of what it will look like. If you like it I will continue on with it for your RR, if not then I will keep it for my own, as I said, I like what I have done with the colors and all.
Anyway, I will update you again tomorrow on the status of it and hopefully have that jpeg to send you. Just need your email address.
PM it to me please.Take care.RangerWestern Maryland Railroad
