Hey folks,
After doing over 80+ repaints in the past year of mostly Maine Central, Bangor & Aroostook and a few more railroads, some of them a little excentric(? ratfink), I've decided to do a series of another RR. Scanning through the files there was not too many of the Boston & Maine. The B&M was a main stay of New England RR. All the repaints I plan on doing are going to be original B&M in the pre Guilford days. Hopefully with the help of a few great modelers maybe some of the B&Ms unique engines. Here is a sampling of a few in the paint booth.
1. The first is an SW-1 in original black. Based on Stewart Clark's SW-1
2. GP-7 based on Dick Cowen's GP-7 in phase 2 blue
3. Two each of 3D Trains F7A&B. One in original maroon and one in the blue bird colors.
Hope you like them. And as usual a few minor touch-ups before uploading. More varieties to come. Maybe even some steam.Dwight....... P.S. I really have to thank George Elwood (fallen flags rr) for some of the color pics he has. All of my old ones were B&W and very worn.

Well, Dwight as a Mainiac, born and bred, I appreciate all of your reskins. After being out a year and a half and then coming back to see all of those engines that I had been planning to do but of course couldn't, I was glad someone did them, and did them very well, I might add. The Bangor and Aroostook's liveries were not the easiest to do, believe me, but you managed to do them very well. I grew up seeing all of these railroads and appreciate being able to run them now and again.
Now if you would learn to create a route (not, me, I tried and gave up) and do the line stretching up into Brownville Junction and points north I would probably drive up there from Virginia and kiss you. Well, on second thought....maybe I wouldn't go that far. Anyway, I would love to see that kind of route. It would be a beautiful route, that is for sure. By the way, Dwight, where are you from?
Oh, one last thing please don't to a Guilford line. They ruined the train business in New England IMHO and their livery is the ugliest one I have ever seen.Again thanks and the B&M's look really good. Ranger (Now a transplanted Virginian, but always a Mainiac at heart!)Western Maryland Railroad

RE: Boston & Maine

Nice job Dwight! I especially like the GP9!As an aside, my first repaint was a Guilford unit, mostly because it had a big "G" on the side. Only later did I realize what a mess they made of New England railroads. I still like the big "G" though. Now all we need is a proper B&M/MEC/BAR route..."G"H

Hey Dwight,I've created a separate msts new england folder just to have a place to run your repaints. Now if there only were a new england based route or two to run them on...Nice work as always...Here are a couple of shots for inspiration...Tim Baldwin

Thanks Tim B and Tim H
A little background: I grew up in Old Town, Maine about a 1/2 mile from Maine Central's "Vanceboro" line but now live in New Hampshire about 100 yards from B&M's "Northern" route. Hey I picked my home carefully. Spent most of my railfanning days chasing the MEC and BAR all over northern Maine with an occasional trip south and west.
I would really like to do some "Maine" routes but don't have a clue on how to do it. Had many ideas like MEC's mountain division from Portland, Me to St. Johnsbury, VT through the White Mtns rugged terrain. BARs route from Northern Maine Jct to Oakfield (including both east and west branches, Great Northern Paper, Derby and of course the yard at NMJ (the big semi clover leaf). MEC's Bangor to Vanceboro route with all the paper mills. But like I said I wouldn't know where to begin (or how).
I love to do reskinning of New England railroads. 90% of the time in the original colors and thats what I'll continue to do. After saturating with MEC and BAR I realise that there were not too many B&M power liveries on train-sim so thats where I'll spend some time. I like to try my hand at 3D modeling. As you two probably know that New England RRs had some "unique" engines and MofW equipment.
Anyways, thanks for the comments and inspiration
The caboose and RDC look great. Have you posted these? If not - you should.Dwight........

I can't believe you are from Old Town. That is where I lived for about six years before moving down here three years ago. I grew up just inside the Aroostook Country line (small town too small to mention), all of my kids went to high school in Old Town. I moved there because my kids lived there with my ex-wife and after getting out of the army wanted to be near them. I lived on the river, the place that used to be a mill and changed into apartments for disabled people (I am a disabled vet that's why I could live there), I miss looking out my window and watching the waterfalls there on the river. Wow, what a small world. I also used to live in Manchester, NH for about three years. I don't know how old you are and won't ask but wouldn't be surprised if we have passed each other on the road somewhere.
Yes, those routes would be great, any of them, but especially up through Oakfield would be nice. Would require a lot of trees but it would be beautiful. So would the Vermont route and up into upstate NY which looks just like northern Maine IMHO.
You keep reskinning them Dwight and I will keep downloading them. (And I wanted to keep my trainset folder much smaller since coming back! Oh well!)
And to that other gentleman who has his private collection, either upload them here or send them to me. They look great. I will send you my email address if you want to send them to me. I would love to have them.....
Andre, that could be your next route?????? I sure would love to see one, even if it is only based on a Dem and the rest is fictional. I would still run it.Keep at it Dwight. Email me sometime and we'll talk about Old Town!!!RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

> Andre, that could be your next route?????? Funny you should say that, for in the past I have seriously considered a New England setting for a future VSC route. > I sure would love to see one, even if it is only based on a Dem and > the rest is fictional. I would still run it.My limiting factor is knowledge. My New England collection of railroad material is skant to say the least. Point me to some websites w/pics and info, and I shall cruise, peruse and muse. > Would require a lot of trees but it would be beautiful. As always, the trees could be a problem. In order to conserve resources for the primary route needs, would likely have to fake the vast majority of them with acceptable terrain textures and tree fronts/view blocks. MSTS, great as it is, does come with certain "gotcha's" one has to deal with. Thickly forested tall mountainsides being one of them. RE: Boston & Maine

Hey, Andre, I understand the problem with too many trees, but they did a good job with them in Marias 3 and in Sandpatch. They look thick in both of those. As far as mountains, yeah, in Vermont and Upstate NY you would need them but in Maine, not so. There are some hills but small ones. Most of that area is pretty much flat or just rolling hills.
Boy, if you do a New England route Andre, you will be my favorite route creator! And I know you could do it too. Doesn't have to be that long either. I will search around and see if I can come up with some pics of paper mills, and other industries. Shoe factories are big in Maine, or were. A lot of factories in New Hampshire, which I am sure Dwight could come up with some pics of. Also would be logging industries, logging camps etc. Potatoes are another big thing hauled out of Maine.
Anyway, Andre, I will see what I can come up with to send you. Now if you opt for the Vermont area, I wouldn't be able to help much, but I am sure there is someone out there who can.I am loving it already, Andre. How about you Dwight and Larry? We could deal with a New England route, heh? )RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

RE: Boston & Maine

Ooo! I like that New England stuff! (What a surprise, given my eclectic tastes in rr-ing!)Seriously though... I've had a soft spot on my heart for the New England roads ever since discovering the Rutland via Jim Shannasseys(sp?) book back in the mid-70's. From the Rutland, my appreciation spread to the rest of them. Andre MingVisit V Scale Creations Forum at: http://www.3DTrains.comBoston & Maine – image 18
