What modifications would be made to the brake section for 86' boxcars that would have their braking action similar to the Physics 4.6 modifications?

RE: Brake modifications for 86' boxcars

Hello,
Did you have a particular weight in mind? I will try to do a loaded and empty and post back here as a zip in a bit.

RE: Brake modifications for 86' boxcars

BobFrom the research I have been able to accomplish, it seems that 86 foot boxcars with auto parts have an empty weight around 106,000 lbs (48.08 metric tons) and a loaded weight around 200,000 lbs (90.72 metric tones).

Thanks for the files. Will try them out tonight. What formula(s) do you use for your friction lines? I have tried the ones for Joe's Friction Calculator and notice your are slightly different. Also, can you explain how the brake values are determined? If there is already a post, simply let me know where it is. Thanks.

Hi,
Take a look at this thread, it may help explain some things about the brakes.

As to the friction line, the original files used a modified version of the work Joe did, mods based on some data from real railroad operation. These files have something else which should be better. Have not had a chance to really try it out yet on very much running.

BobThanks for the insight on the braking values.I recall several posts a while back about Joe's Friction Calculator that had many different spreadshhets with friction values plotted. I tried to do a search, but came up empty. Do you (or anyone else) know where that thread may be?

I would be a little patient. I think very soon Joe will have a new version of FCalc that will be very helpful to get all this just right. Joe's work is really comprehensive, and I don't think the new version will dissappoint you.
