RE: New texturing tutorial ...

Outstanding job Sean. Thank you so much. Believe me there is much need for this kind of tutorial. I would also like to see some for the less advanced (for those who might not understand all of the paint programs terminology you used in it, although I understand that you did say this was for more advanced users)users. Yours is very well done and there are techniques there that I had not thought to use at all. Great work. Keep them coming as far as I am concerned. Very well presented too, I might add.Ranger Western Maryland Railroad

Thanks for the kind words. I am really happy that you guys are finding it useful. As a beginner, the biggest help was just looking at the work of people that were really good at it, Marc Nelson comes foremost to mind and he has always been a great influence on my own work. He has got to be one of the best texture artist ever. There are others too, notably Nigel from 3DTS, Rick Lamp, Tim Kent and of course V. Horton of TA.I am working on a beginner's tutorial which will take you through the entire process of re-texturing a locomotive.

RE: New texturing tutorial ...

Great Sean, I will be looking forward to it. I think it is needed. And I couldn't agree with you more on the people you mentioned. Marc Nelson is a genius as far as I am concerned. And I am glad that you mentioned Mr Horton, who helped me a lot when I first came here. If not for him I probably would never have skinned a single engine. Verne is one of the best. And Rick is a genius as well in my book. And of course Tim is great too. I also love his comments in the forum, but that is another topic.
Anyway Sean, I have your tutorial on my computer and will definitely use it. Keep up the great work. You do know what you are talking about, it is obvious.RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

Good tuturoial...think I'll have to switch over to photoshop soon with those filters as psp doesnt seem to have them. (although you can get similar effects by making a copy of a layer, adding a texture effect to it, then blending the textured version in with the transparency sliders)Longhairedwizard

I have tried to run these after copying the Plug-In.dll from Photoshop in and updating c+ runtime .dlls in the System directory to no avail. If anybody has any further ideas on getting these 'Photoshop standard filters' to work in PSP 7 upwards I'd like to here about it. All this being said however most of the third party 'Plug-In' Filters produced for Photoshop will run quite happily in PSP.

Try this one and it's FREE
http://www.geocities.com/murakuma/mmplugins.htmlDownload The Clouds 2.2 plug-in and extract with winzip into your Paint Shop Pro Plug-ins directory and away you go. I have both Paint shop Pro and Photoshop but this cloud filter smacks the pants of the one that comes standard with Photoshop as you can manipulate your results.

Currently, other than printing the page directly from your browswer, there is no other way. I've got hold of an ebook software. Once I get up to speed with it, I will see about getting it into that type of format for downloading.

RE: New texturing tutorial ...

If you're using Internet Explorer you can make it available offline. First, add it to your IE Favorites list. Then locate it in the list of favorites and right click on it. Choose the Make available offline... option and follow the prompts.

RE: New texturing tutorial ...

Thanks Sean, thanks Nick, I may try that. Actually you can do it another way but have to put it on a disk which I really didn't want to do. An ebook sounds great, but what about PDF. There are a lot of good new programs out for creating PDF's from word formats and the like. Just an idea!
Anyway, great stuff Sean and I thank you for it. You put a lot of hours into it and it shows. Great work!TimWestern Maryland Railroad

RE: New texturing tutorial ...

Sean,I could make a PDF out of your tutorial. I could make each page a separate PDF or one large one. In fact, I have each page as a seperate PDF right now. The reason I did that was it makes it easier for me to view it on my Mac at school. You could then make it available as a download. Just a thought.Yours in Railroading,

Jerry

RE: New texturing tutorial ...

Bless you Jerry for your doing that for us all. It makes it much easier for me to read this offline and take my time doing it. And thanks again Sean for your very excellent tutorial and allowing it to be done in this fashion for us to download. And for making the engine available for download as well. I am going to go through it step by step, even though I may not reskin the way you do I will probably learn some tricks that will help me in my future ones. It is people like you who make this game so enjoyable and I thank you for giving up of your free time to create this much needed tutorial. There are a lot of new people here who are going to be able to create more engines for us all because of it and that is a good thing! (other than using up my hardrive space ) But hey, who cares, I have 360gb of HD space available now thanks to my recent purchase of a 160gb HD.......oh watch out, I will have every engine and route before long and won't know what to run. I love it.Thanks again guys. You are both great! Sean, thanks so much for all of your contributions to this game. It is appreciated by so many of us.TimWestern Maryland Railroad
