i have finally put the initail modern TW livery on dick cowen's sd60. the first side is relatively unchanged from the older version i did about 6 months ago, with a lightning stripe added and the font unitalisized. the second image is much different. sporting a UP flag type motif with american flag on the side, tw logo with the RR's slogan "hauling america" (which i came up with 4 months before UP, i am not ripping off thier slogan). anyway, i can't decide which one i should use. put a "1" or "one" for image one and comments if desired, and a "2" or "two" for image two and comments if desired. note this engine is not fully finished (ie detail) for obvious reasons but rather shows just the livery...Image oneTexas Western modern livery .. input wanted – image 1Image twoTexas Western modern livery .. input wanted – image 2Texas Western modern livery .. input wanted – image 3Hauling America one pixel at a time

I like 'em both. But if I had to choose one, I'd say number 2

Hey Bill,Long time no see, I like the color scheme but you need to apply the same kinds of technique you did on the F units to these to make them standout, like you well liked F's....
Placing doors and cabinets onto the exterior paint scheme and using the shadow and light techniques you already know will give these an outstanding look....also try to make the paint itself look as if it exists on a metal object not a flat surface as they appear now....
With a little love these will shine as you other repaints do...P.s. - if you already were working on these things then sorry for jumping the gun....Rick

If you go with #2 you might get busted by UP so stick with #1

RE: Texas Western modern livery .. input wanted.......

Bill, while I understand your reasoning, etc for having the flag and hauling america, I think number one is less gaudy, and less distracting than number two. The flag is too large and just doesn't go with your color scheme. I like the flag, but just too big as you now have it. I would drop the UP thing too. You may have had the idea first, only you know that, but your line is fictional, there's is real. Either don't use it or find another appropriate slogan. Will save you a lot of headaches down the line.
These are just my suggestions Bill. As an old friend and someone who helped you get started and has always been a supporter of your talent and zest, go with number one or perhaps resize the flag to about a third of what it is now and go with something new for a slogan. I am sure you have enough intelligence to come up with another one, if what you say is true about coming up with the first one.
It's good talking to you again.Ranger (aka zhivago47, aka Tim) You know who I am!Western Maryland Railroad

LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-04 AT 00:34 AM (EST)

yeah, i am gonna have dick make an sd40-2 (later) or use justin cornell's sd40-2 and then put the newer livery on it. here is the final version of the tw livery on an emd sd60. i also added custom lights so that there is a nose mars light and instead of the lights being dim and bright, they are both bright, but the ditch lights go from constant bright to flashing (like shown in the picture). the mars light is also always on when the lights are on. all spartan cab emd's on the TW will have this lighting patterndepending on the road, future repaints i do will have custom lighting as warrented. anyway here is the screenshotTexas Western modern livery .. input wanted – image 13Texas Western modern livery .. input wanted – image 14Hauling America one pixel at a time

Nice job Bill, looks great. The changes made came out perfectly. This will definitely be on my list to download. I have most of your stuff anyway, including the stuff from way way back. Love the light changes you have made. Great work overall, young man. Keep them coming!RangerWestern Maryland Railroad

Looks alot better now! 2 question...
1. how did you get the colours on the 2 shapes to come up the same?
2. what did you do to make the hood doors look more real?
Cheer,
Adam

RE: Texas Western modern livery ..

Does look better Bill, should have noticed that myself, been gone too long I guess. Of course you couldn't get better advice than from the two you mentioned. Pete Willard is one of the best around and so is Shawn. Great work. And by the way Pete, can you send me a PM with your email address? Just want to see how things are going with you and what you have been up to since I have been away. Thanks
Keep up the nice work Bill.RangerWestern Maryland Railroad
